"Don't Be Afraid!"
By Sarah Aten
Every year, my family sits down before we open gifts on Christmas Eve to read the Christmas story. The lights are off, except for the lights on the Christmas tree itself, and perhaps a few candles around the house. My father takes the heirloom Bible off the shelf and reads the story aloud. It's a quiet, tender moment each year in our house, meant to be warm and thought-provoking.

Modern Miracles
By Melanie Jean Juneau
The modern world heaps scorn on those who have experienced miracles. This cynical attitude simply serves to coerce most legitimate eyewitnesses into silence; only quacks speak out. As a result, of course, society’s prejudice is simply reinforced.

Cultivating Advent Hope: Healing Our Decembers
By Judy Landrieu Klein
Tears flowed freely during the meeting with my spiritual director, Sandy, as I shared with her the pain I was feeling. “December is here,” I said. “I get such a wave of anxiety and grief at this time of year.” Somehow, I have a hunch I’m not alone in experiencing December this way.

Letter from an Ex-Priest (who doesn't have an agenda against the Church)
By Michael Ripple
So it is our mutual experience of ‘leaving’ the ministry that has connected us. I’m not sure I would have listened to anyone when I left and so I feel a certain responsibility, that I not fail you or Jesus Christ—our High Priest. I pray to the Holy Spirit Who will guide our brief correspondence…

The Mass: a truly wonderful celebration part I
By Traditional Catholic Guy
What is the Mass? The first Mass was of course the Last Supper, when Our Lord said the immortal words of consecration for the first time. The Mass as we know it today was formulated by Pope Gregory the Great, and with a few minor changes (such as St. Joseph in the Canon) until the implementation of Vatican II.

St. Therese' of Lisieux: Being Just What the Good God Wants Her to Be!
By Frank Lloyd
“If I had not been received into Carmel, I would have entered a Refuge, to live there unknown and despised in the midst of the poor penitents. To pass for such in the eyes of all would have been my happiness. I should have been the apostle of my companions telling them what I think of the Mercy of the Good God.” (St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face).

Suffering on the Job
By Susan Skinner
This past birthday I noticed I have hit the age where my arms are not long enough to make the words I try to read legible. Things don’t look and feel the way they used to. I decided we needed to celebrate so as not to get depressed by the state of my body. My husband and I went to an expensive restaurant in town.

Our Lady's Holy Rosary and the Spirit of "Holy Truthfulness": An Awakening for Advent and for the New Evangelization
By Frank Lloyd
Having heard and responded to the eternal call of Our Loving God contained in the words of the Prophet Isaiah, “…prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God” (Isaiah 40:3), we continue to move forward in Faith during this Holy Season of Advent, establishing a place within our hearts to receive the Christ Child at His coming.

Advent: A truly Catholic season
By Traditional Catholic Guy
“Without mortification, nothing can be accomplished.” --Saint Philip Neri The purpose of Advent within the Church has always been a time of preparation. Just as in Lent, we prepare for one of the greatest events in the history of the world: the birth of Christ.

I Love Christmas and I Will be Praying for all the Grinches who are Trying to Ruin it
By Larry Peterson
I love Christmas and the entire season that surrounds it. Christmas is about faith and love and goodness and sharing and giving and all of those things that fill the hearts of the vast majority of people around the world with a renewed spirit that can shine through even the darkest moments we may have experienced during the preceding year. Yes, I love Christmas.

Christmas and the Fulfillment of Human History
By Sr. Anne Marie
God does not usually surprise us without first preparing us, sometimes for a long period of time, for what He is about to do. And yet, we are often surprised because we do not recognize His preparations. All of history, up to the first Christmas, was a preparation for that Holy Night.

During this hectic holiday season, many people like to relax by watching their favorite Christmas movies and videos. There are countless options: the BB gun “You’ll shoot your eye out!” movie. Every year I put this out because it is proof that Santa Claus is real and loves children the world over and brings them gifts every Christmas Eve. How can I be so sure he is real? Well, the letter below proves it, even if it was written 117 years ago.

Mother Thrice Admirable
By Susan Skinner
Mary has guided and continues to guide all her children to Jesus, as she did at the wedding of Cana when she said to the dejected servants: “Do whatever He tells you” John 2:5…Hers is a teaching of the faith in Christ permeated with gentleness, profound knowledge of Jesus and human nature, as well as of her own most particular mission in the divine plan of salvation. -Pope Benedict XVI

Taylor Marshall Resurrects Saint George and the Dragon
By Mishka Góra
Like many other Catholic mothers, the stories of the saints I tell my young children often seem more like fairy tales than biographies. Saint George is a case in point. We love the prayer to “glorious St George” asking him to “defend the happiness” of our homes from those who “conspire to destroy” them, but what my children remember is that he killed a dragon and saved a princess.
