Finding Light in a Small Room
By Chris Harvey
A devout friend of mine once told me that he tried to go to Confession every two weeks. I blurted back, "What? I try NOT to go to Confession every two weeks!" And there, in one exchange is one of the misunderstandings of Confession.

Responses to liberals – Part 2
By Paul Couturier
It’s been far-left-wing liberals who’ve taken legitimate Church practices and taken them far beyond what is prescribed in Church Law, taking advantage of vaguely written rubrics, administrative procedures, and guidelines, and twisting them to suit their own agendas.

Responses to liberals - Part 1
By Paul Couturier
Recently, I wrote two posts chastising far-right-wing conservative Catholics who obsess over valid Church practices in place for many years now. They claim these valid practices will bring nothing but doom and gloom to the Church! However, these two posts are addressed to the far-left-wing liberals in the Church; trust me, I haven’t forgotten about you!

Blessed Josephine Viannini and the Rogue Yak
By Christy Breedlove
Blessed Josephine Viannini was a late 19th century religious from Italy who was asked by Blessed Louis Tezza to form an order to help care for the sick that were unable to pay for care. Well, as any good servant of God would do, she prayed over it and answered “yes”. She marched off to do her duty and saw her congregation spread to other countries. Her feast day is February 23.

How many kinds of Baptist Churches are there?
By De Maria
About twenty years ago, my daughter was having a ballet recital at a Baptist Church. They usually practiced at a gym near my house. And I knew where that was. But the only thing I knew about the show location was what my wife had told me, that it was at the Baptist Church near our house.

Fear and Hell
By Linda Kracht
Recently, my husband and I traveled to Poland; we visited Auschwitz I & II. The latter is also known as Auschwitz-Birkenau. Until that trip, I didn’t realize the difference between the Nazi concentration camps and the death camps. The former were slave labor camps where crews of people worked themselves to death hewing out rock, and doing other hard manual labor jobs.

St. John of the Cross Poetry Reflection Part 4 The Spiritual Canticle
By Tim Hatch
Christ, the bridegroom, responds to his bride. He is fulfilling the bride's deepest desire, of which she spoke of at the end of her discourse in the last reflection "as she rests in delight in the sweet garden of her desire." The imagery St. John of the Cross uses to describe this is very intimate, at the level which is only found within the context of marriage.

St. John of the Cross Poetry Reflections Part 3 Selections from The Spiritual Canticle
By Tim Hatch
The Spiritual Canticle is an extensive dialogue between Christ, the Bridegroom, and his bride, the human soul. This dialogue is like that of the Psalms found in Scripture. Like the Psalmist, St. John of the Cross in this poem speaks of both joy and suffering.

How to heal a frozen heart
By Tony Jesse
If you haven’t seen the Disney movie Frozen, I’m probably going to ruin the end for you. Chances are if you have kids you’ve seen this movie multiple times, and if you are an adult without kids, I suspect you are not waiting to see this movie anyway.

Does the Catholic Church have authority over the Bible?
By De Maria
People who believe in Sola Scriptura will frequently make the statement that the Bible alone is the highest authority over men. And they make the claim that the Catholic Church holds itself as the authority over the Bible. Thus, making itself the highest authority.

Celebrate Or Not
By Mariel Roersma
Lent has begun. People are trying to get used to sacrificing, spending extra time in prayer, and not eating meat on Friday's. There is always a lot of discussion about whether Sunday's count as a day of Lent. Some think it does, while others don't. There are those who sacrifice on Sunday, and those who don't. So can you celebrate on Sunday or not?

Is salvation conditional or unconditional?
By De Maria
Many times, you’ll hear people to say that salvation is an unconditional gift from God. I’ve heard that from Catholics and Protestants. However, the saying is not true. Salvation is a gift of God, but it is not an unconditional gift.

Whispers in the Wind
By Ginny Kochis
Since the day started, I’ve stepped on a Lego, an oddly shaped block, one 1980s vintage Fisher Price Little Person and a pet rock. The poor little person got chucked across the living room in a fit of quiet rage, his blue cap pinging every so satisfyingly off the front door frame. The other items fared much better, my foot getting the worst of our confrontations.

St. Agape and Godiva Chocolates
By Christy Breedlove
On February 15, we honor St. Agape. She was a virgin martyr who followed St. Valentine who we honor on February 14. There’s not much about her—just that she and her group of virgins were put to death around 273 A.D.
