Celebrating Our Roots
By Denisea Kampe
Grandparents Day is a fairly new secular holiday, only having been on the calendar since 1978, celebrated in the U.S. during the month of September set aside to recognize some very special folks who help shape our lives. This year this day was a little bittersweet for me. My own Grandmas and Grandpas have all now gone to their eternal rest.

Why did Jesus give Simon the name, "Rock"?
By De Maria
Perhaps you never wondered. Here’s why. Because He wanted all to know that Simon would be he to whom all must turn who want to know God’s will. There is a precedent for this in Scripture

My Sleeping Saint Joseph Statue
By Pam Spano
This past March I came across this article about Pope Francis’ Sleeping Saint Joseph statue. I posted the picture and article on my Being Catholic ... Really Facebook page and everyone just about lost their minds! “Where do I get one?,” everyone asked. So the search was on and I contacted several Catholic gift stores.

Going Deeper Into Prayer
By Carol Ann Chybowski
I learned a lot from the course I took on the writings of St. Teresa of Avila from the School of Spiritual Formation at the Avila Institute online. Previously I shared one of the insights I received on the deep meaning of the Lord’s Prayer. Today I’d like to share a little bit of what I learned about prayer.

Waiting for God's Plan: Venerable Catherine McAuley
By Brigid Vacca
Being one who is prone to all kinds of painful anxiety, and who lives with daughters who are prone to painful anxiety (and then I feel anxious about their anxiety, and they get anxious that they’re causing me anxiety–some days it’s like living in a pack of over-caffeinated toy poodles…)–well, any quote about anxiety piques my interest. And I had never heard of Venerable Catherine McAuley, so I did

Mass: the Ultimate Hour of Power
By Lorrie McNickle
When we go to Mass this Sunday, will we go just to fulfill our Sunday obligation? Will we go half- heartedly, if we go at all, and just wade through the motions, our minds adrift in far-away thoughts and distractions. Will we mindlessly recite the prayers and Psalms, sing the songs with no real heart or meaning in the process?

The Early Christian Martyrs Compel Us to Pray and Love Unceasingly
By Janet Moore
In our day and age, we can no longer presume we will not be asked to suffer martyrdom. Christianity and adhering to the Truth Christ reveals is becoming an increasingly dangerous way of life to live in America and throughout the world. With this ever in Her mind, the Church is wise to hold up for us courageous witnesses who have gone before us in faith!

"We-Time" Is Better Than "Me-Time"
By Karee Santos
Having a family can feel like you need to give of yourself twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This is true whether you spend most of your waking hours at your career or at home with the kids. And yet, this feeling is not limited to family life. It is part of the life of service to which every Christian is called.

The Spirituality of Imperfection
By Will Campbell
Though we barely knew each other, our acknowledgement of our “imperfect” journeys led to a profound conversation about how it is precisely these struggles that will transform, heal, and ultimately save us….if we let them.

The Corporate Nature of Prayer
By Dr. Lin Weeks Wilder
Of late, I’ve been thinking about the corporate nature of prayer. It’s a formal phrase and is misleading because corporate implies big business in these days of mega-corporations; despite the shortcomings, the phrase is fitting. In this context, I speak about the origin of the word, corpartus or ‘to form into a body’ and am using that metaphor rather than that of commerce.

But, LORD, I Homeschooled Him!
By Jennifer Elia
Well, school has begun. After months of researching, planning, charts, lists, and book shopping--we are here in our school, which looks an awful lot like our kitchen. While others are posting about first day victory dances at the bus stops, champagne toasts, and kid-free afternoon celebrations; us homeschoolers are breathing deeply, girding our loins and plowing ahead.

The Bicycle
By E.M. Wilson
So a few days back I was talking with my cousin and somehow the topic of heaven came up. I told him that I want to see what the Saints see when they die- I want the Beatific Vision, which, just to put us all on the same page, is the direct communication of God to the individual person (ie heaven in full) and my cousin was like "ooohhhhhh no I could never be a saint."

What I Learned from the Early Christians about Spiritual Growth, Part 6: We need the Truth
By Carl Sommer
Human beings all have differing intellectual capabilities. Some excel at book learning, some learn by observing nature, and still others learn by doing. Some learn new ideas and come to new thoughts quickly. Others, who are just as intelligent, process information at a slower pace. These differences are given to us by God.

The Story of A Student
By Ana R. Plumlee
I go to a small Catholic liberal arts college (in the tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame) called Notre Dame College, also known as NDC, which is twenty minutes away from downtown Cleveland. It sounds like it’d be an easy choice, right? Not so much. I actually needed divine intervention to make the decision to even come to Notre Dame College.

Devotion to Mary.....Time Well Spent
By Steve Reasbeck
A question from an evangelical friend a short time ago prompted me to write this piece. Most everyone who knows me is aware that I like to hang around with the Blessed Virgin and pray the Rosary each day. So, the question I received is one that so many Catholics receive, but unfortunately, many are unable to answer. That question is this: Why go to Mary when you can go to Jesus Himself?

A Love Affair with Moloch
By Karl Erickson
We’d be wise not to forget the stern warning within Leviticus 18:21. "Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD." Children hold a special place in the heart of God. “Let the little children come to me,” said Jesus. The reader is reminded of God's love and intimate knowledge of the unborn child ...

Not by any of the 5 Alones
By De Maria
Most of you have heard of faith alone and Scripture alone. But you would probably be surprised to find out that there are actually 5 Protestant doctrines to which they appended the word, “alone”. And all 5 are heresies.
