Listening Ears
By Jen Schlameuss-Perry
Do you have trouble paying attention at Mass? Sometimes it’s hard—there are so many distractions around us, and inside our heads (cute babies, shopping lists, the ‘oh crud—did I remember to…?”). When we’re supposed to be singing a hymn, sometimes I catch myself looking at the notes and how some of them look like smiley faces.

These Forty Days
By Nancy Ristuccia
In between Jesus’ baptism by John and Jesus’ public ministry are forty days (the biblical number symbolic of testing or trail). During this time Jesus fasted and prayed. He is driven by the Spirit to do this in preparation for his mission. At the end of these forty days he is tempted by THE devil and Jesus so defeats him that the devil waits to tempt him again in the garden of Gethsemane.

INFJ Seeks Catholic Partner
By Sarah Kalb
Hello there. I'm an INFJ. What socially crafted code are you? I'm referring to Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers. As students of Carl Jung they coined 16 categories during World War II by which to divide the world's personalities.

Our God Fights For Us
By Crysaly Aviles
I ran across the idea that “God fights for you” recently, and wondered if it was true? I took into consideration that it’s what God does, He looks after us like a shepherd watches sheep.

Giving up worry for Lent
By Susan Skinner
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?

For What Have I been Created?
By Brenda Bonilla
Have you ever wondered about the reason of your existence? Why are you here in this planet earth? What is the purpose of your life? Most of us, at some point, have asked ourselves such questions or similar ones. In fact, It is important for each human being to enquire about the goal of one’s life.

Long Night's Journey into Mourning
By Dom Perry
I awoke to discover I was in mourning long before tragedy ever struck. I awoke in the middle of the night, in a cold sweat with something flying past me, hitting me in the head. As I opened my eyes, I saw through a blur, something grayish, maybe a wing flying past.

Notes on Grief and Guilt
By Mary Ordos
In moments of grief, I often feel that I can see my heart inside my chest. I imagine it as a mess of bright red blood and dark caverns – of aching, throbbing pain and vacuous longing. And with the longing there is a sickly sweet darkness that curls around my heart like wisps of toxic smoke: Guilt.

Wait, Jesus and Mary were... Wedding Planners!?
By Melanie R. Cameron
When I think, "wedding planner," I inevitably picture the ever-hilarious Martin Short, who played Franck Eggelhoffer in "Father of the Bride" ... a far cry from the wedding at Cana, but hey, who's counting?

Out of Time....
By Michelle Watkins
Depending which source you seek online, only 41%-20% of Catholics attend Mass weekly. (I’ve heard in recent sermons the number is close to 20-25% locally.) Years ago, I took an informal survey with co-workers and friends why they opted out of Mass attendance.

Wait Until Marriage?
By Linda Kracht
The blogosphere has lit up over this question: Why Wait Until Marriage? Some people go so far as to argue that not waiting is worth it because it is a means by which to measure compatibility. Others suggest that not wanting to wait is the yardstick to measure one’s lack of worthiness.

Our Koinonia
By Michael Adsit
When my immediate or extended families get together, it brings a great joy, and a time for feasts. Most family members I have are scattered throughout the United States, all the way from the east coast to the west coast, and I live smack dab in the Midwest with two brothers in neighboring states.

Listen to God's Heartbeat In Prayer
By Nina Rizzo
"How's your prayer life?" I remember being asked. I looked at my friend in surprise and asked, "Are you talking to me?" I knew she was, but I was stalling for time, because I didn't pray. "I volunteer at the church. Isn't that prayer enough?" She persisted, "That restlessness you've been moaning about is because you have no prayer life!"

Lighthouses In The Storm
By Sevi Regis
No one will argue that the state of the world appears to be unraveling. There are many things happening today that even the most seasoned news aficionados shake their heads in disbelief over. As one of them cautions, James Wilson: "When the news is freakier than a Hollywood horror flick, you've got trouble."

It's Possible To Love People Without Liking Them
By Bill Dunn
There are many awesome teachings in Christian theology; true forgiveness of sins and eternal life in Heaven, just to name a couple. But the one teaching that’s had the biggest impact on my life is this: it is possible to love someone without necessarily liking him. I remember years ago when I first heard Jesus’ command: “Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.”

What Does Our Divine Lover Have to Do to Allow His Embrace?
By Roberta Lambert
Even Jesus’ friends do not seem to understand his desire for each of us to come to him, to commune with him and to allow for a full embrace when receiving the totality of who he is in Holy Communion.

Our Whispered Hello to God
By Melanie Jean Juneau
I am not just reciting theology when I remind you that there is neither time nor distance when we live and move and breathe in the Spirit. When someone dies or moves far away, I don’t have to say good-bye just whisper hello, a different kind of hello that moves with the speed of light to brighten each heart when I think of them.
