Romans 8:28

I ran across the idea that “God fights for you” recently, and wondered if it was true? I took into consideration that it’s what God does, He looks after us like a shepherd watches sheep. Slowly, but surely I started opening up to the idea and then I found the scripture to support this claim: “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." (Exodus 14:14) How hard can it be to remain still, right? It’s actually a lot harder than a sounds, but certainly doable if you pray for peace during the waiting stage.
I later realized that “God lights a way unto our feet” (Psalm 119:115) through family, friends, or even our guardian angels to help us arrive at the desired destination. I suppose God helps us because He cares and because He can help - independent of whether we deserve assistance or not. I think this is an important factor, because theoretically we cannot earn God’s favor, it’s bestowed upon us like grace. Even in my darkest days I am not to be afraid, because God is with me and because I am certain that he will help me.
God’s presence and his peace blesses us to a point that we overflow in His goodness. The idea that God fights for us should help us rejoice in victory and not worry the way we are told in Philippians 4:6-7: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
And to that end I pray:
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
