Truly an extraordinary ministry: I am an EMHC and I am honored to be one
By Larry Peterson
I wish to clarify something right away. I am NOT a Eucharistic Minister. I am an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC). Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is the proper term for the people involved in this ministry. The term, “Eucharist” is never to be in their title. That term is reserved for the priest alone. (see Redemptionis Sacramentum).

The Powerful Effects of Prayer
By Tony Jesse
Time magazine recently ran an article showcasing the positive benefits of prayer. The article states, “Prayer has been shown to be powerful, in at least one way. It triggers the relaxation response, a state of mind-body rest that has been shown to decrease stress, heart rate and blood pressure; alleviate chronic disease symptoms; and even change gene expression.”

Church Music, the Good, the bad...
By Robert Atkinson, M.I.
Now I admit, the blessing of the palms and the reading of the Passion we’re moving, and the homily was first rate! But, as good as it was, two hours later I’d have to really think to remember the homily! But that hymn! Four hours later I was still humming it! I couldn’t get it out of my head! Not just the tune, the words, echoing in my brain!

The Man Mistaken for a Gardener
By David Torkington
It was at Easter in the 1970's that I first met my wife. I received a phone call from the local convent asking me to drive three Dominican sisters and their friend to Heathrow. It was at the last minute so I had no time to change out of my working clothes.

Emotional Healing From the Eucharist
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
The second kind of healing that awaits us in the Eucharist is emotional healing, a healing that occurs in our minds. We have already seen that the fruit of the Spirit – especially love, joy, and peace – are available to us through our contact with Jesus in the Eucharist and provide us with healing beyond the mere physical. In fact, both spiritual and emotional healings ensue when we receive Jesus

It is I myself (Luke 24:39)
By Deborah Burton
The Lord promised to be with us “always, until the end of the age” (Mt 28:20, NAB, emphasis added). These scripture verses came to mind on January 17, 2018 during my 9 to 10 pm Holy Hour at our Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration chapel.

Giving Back Words their Original Meaning
By David Torkington
The local Charismatic group were celebrating forty years since their foundation and were preparing a special Mass for that purpose. The readings, the psalms and the prayers had all been chosen to echo the overall theme of asking God to give his love to all those present and to the whole world that would be lost without it. The visiting preacher came straight to the point.

A Humble Sacrifice
By Jean Smith
I am a member of our Parish Choir and we are given many opportunities to sing beautiful hymns of worship and when we sing, we pray twice. As I study the verses in the hymns or prepare for an anthem to be sung; I reflect on the meaning of each piece. During this Lenten Season we have recently added a new anthem to our repertoire. It is called, “Christ Became Obedient” (taken from Phil 8-9)

My own set of stone tablets
By Catherine Garrett
When was the last time you asked for "a sign" from God? Maybe it was five minutes ago. Maybe it was last week. Did that sign take longer than you wanted it to? Did you fall back into old habits and lose faith or hope because God wasn't operating on "your" timeline?

As we have already seen, there are three major areas in which God’s healing action can benefit his creatures. These are in body, soul, and spirit. Let us take a closer look at God’s healing action in each of these areas, and the effiect we can expect.

Are you willing to get messy?
By Tess Shore
While sitting in church just listening to the chatter going on around me, I heard Father asking a woman, “Are you ready to get messy?” I did not hear the woman’s response. However, it made me think. Did Jesus and the Apostles know that their work was going to be messy?

Time Split in Two
By E.M. McCarthy
The death and resurrection of Jesus split time in two and began a religion many powerful people tried to stop. The first attempts to stop Christianity began with physical torture and death. Early Christians bought the “field” that contained the pearl of great price with the most precious currency they had, their own blood.

Thank God For Unanswered Prayer
