What Christ Gave Us

Moses stood on the mountain conversing with God. He was then given two stone tablets written by God with the Ten Commandments on them. A guideline for life. A guide on how to treat your neighbor, your friend, your spouse, and even a perfect stranger. Moses was gone for so long getting the tablets though, that people lost faith and turned to their old ways. They melted down gold and made an idol to worship. Moses was so frustrated with the people and their impatience, he smashed the tablets on his way back down the mountain.
When was the last time you asked for "a sign" from God? Maybe it was five minutes ago. Maybe it was last week. Did that sign take longer than you wanted it to? Did you fall back into old habits and lose faith or hope because God wasn't operating on "your" timeline?
Just like it took God and Moses time to converse and carve the Ten Commandments, it can take some time for God's signs to manifest in our lives. What we experience in prayer (conversing with God) is not always readily available in our physical world (the stone tablets). Often times we must work with God to bring the spiritual into the physical. Being open to God's Will and being open to actually doing God's Will are the ways we obtain our own Stone Tablets.
What do you do with your tablets when you're given them? Does your response to God's gift depend on what those around you are saying or doing? Do you smash your gift because others don't or can't recognize it for what it is? How many times has God answered your prayer for a sign and you ignored it or worse- broke it into pieces- because of those around you?
Acting on faith often times requires us to shut out the voices of the world. This requires silent contemplation and finding Christ in Adoration. Instead of breaking your stone tablets, reply "Here I am, Lord! Your servant is listening."
Despite Moses breaking the first tablets, God's message was still conveyed. He made two new tablets. I'm convinced if He had to, He would've made thousands more to get His message to His Chosen People. What signs have you smashed or ignored that God continues to send you? Listen to His voice and trust in Him. Don't worry, you are not powerful enough to thwart God's plan, but He is wanting to use you for a reason.
May we all hear the Voice of God and respond in faith!
