Point-By-Point Counter on Peter as the First Pope (Matthew 16:18)
By Jonathan Hayes
Peter is the rock upon which Jesus builds his church and who was given the keys to the kingdom. If this is the case then he is the leader of that Church, i.e. the first Pope.

The Present
By Elizabeth Thomas
What could be our ultimate gift or present that we could give to Jesus as we celebrate His day of birth? In the Fourth Joyful Mystery, Jesus is presented or consecrated to God as is described by Jewish Law. Could the perfect gift be the gift of YOU?

Why is it called "the Mass"?
By De Maria
I found this answer on the Internet: The word "Mass" derives from the Latin phrase said during the dismissal (when the Mass is said in Latin), "Ite, missa est," which is usually translated "Go, it is sent." In the Eastern Catholic churches, as in the Eastern Orthodox churches, the service ordinarily is called the divine liturgy.

Detachment
By Will Campbell
This gospel is short. And quite honestly, I had a bit of a struggle trying to understand how it was speaking to me, or to us as a com:munity of believers. I particularly took notice to sit with a lectio divina with this reading because I was asked by a family member to give him my thoughts on it. While I found it challeging, I felt the Lord nudging me toward these points

In the beginning of this series we looked at the “Shadow of God’s Plan” in the Old Testament typology of the Feasts and Rituals of Jewish life that all pointed to the Cross.

Knowing Why, Not Just What We Believe
By Brett M Petillo
Several years ago, I had the unique opportunity to run for public office. An amazing ride for so many reasons. I was a frustrated ex-business owner. I say ex, because this was in 2010. From late 2007 through 2008, our country saw the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Protestant At Heart?
By Mike Bugal
I recently was involved in a discussion with another author on this website in which he proposed that two mutually exclusive religions (Catholicism and Judaism) are both true. He cited a statement by Cardinal Walter Kasper of Germany that the religion of the Jews today is salvific for them.

Is God Impressed With Our Giving?
By Bill Dunn
In the gospel reading for the weekend of November 7th and 8th, we learn that the religious leaders in Jesus’ day had a very interesting practice regarding offerings. When it was time to take up a collection, apparently the people paraded up in front of the crowd one-by-one and put in their donations so everyone could see exactly how much was contributed. Whoa, talk about peer pressure.

How In The World Did You Get Here??
By Elizabeth Thomas
I can just imagine the look on some cow’s faces when they looked down at their manger and found a baby instead of the usual morning oats. “Where did You come from and how did You get here? I am sure that was their unspoken puzzled words. If we would also deeply think about the MIRACLE behind this birth---we would be asking this too!

The Substance of God's Plan Part 3
By Mike Bugal
In the second part we look at part of the “how”, considering the Chosen Vessel to bring in the New Covenant and how the Blessed Mother fulfilled the “types” of the Old Testament Ark of the Covenant. Now in this next to the last part we look at the actual Incarnation, life, death and resurrection that established the New Covenant.

The Devil's Lullaby for Careless Christians
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
Good advice, even when facetiously expressed, should never be ignored. One trenchant example of advice from a popular writer reads like a wake-up call for careless Christians: “Never nap in your battlefield foxhole during spiritual warfare. This is real war! Wake up and smell the gunpowder!”

Where do Catholics learn about the Word of God?
By De Maria
Catholics approach the Word of God (that includes the Bible) in a manner fundamentally different than Protestants. We approach the Word of God in the manner which Scripture recommends.

The Substance of God's Plan Part 2
By Mike Bugal
In Part 1 we looked at the reason why a New Covenant was needed: the insufficiency of the priesthood and the sacrifice. In this part we’ll look at how God fulfilled the promise of Jeremiah 31.

Where is the Mass in the Bible?
By De Maria
As usual, the word “mass” is not in the Bible. This is starting to get monotonous, right? Why aren’t any Catholic Doctrines named in the Bible?

The Substance of God's Plan Part 1
By Mike Bugal
We concluded the article “The Shadow of God’s Plan” with the promise given to Israel through Jeremiah that He was going to do a New Covenant with them. Verses 21 -32 tells us that this Covenant would be different from the Mosaic Covenant that the people had broken.
