St. Kateri Tekakwitha
By E.M. McCarthy
I smell the wax burning. The purity of bees’ wax calms me. I recall that as a small cian, I sat by the fire during the long winter months, and shivered as the wind spoke to the clouds in loud gusts. The flames of the oetseira comforted me then. Now the candle’s flames remind me we do not walk alone on the earth. The Spirit is here with me.

Simon Peter, the Rock and the Pope
By Ken Litchfield
The Pope is the visible head of the Church that Jesus left behind after He ascended into Heaven. Most of us know that Jesus said “You are Peter and on this Rock, I will build my Church” It is in Matthew's Gospel chapter 16 verse 18. Catholics see this as Jesus ordaining Peter as the first Pope, but non-Catholic Christians say that Jesus was talking about Peter’s Faith not his Office.

Art, faith, and sin
By Elizabeth Hoyle
A few months ago, I was on jury duty and witnessed an interesting idea of what Christianity is and how faith and art relate to one another. One of my fellow jurors was an older lady who made it quite clear to us from the beginning of our service that she didn’t want to hear any foul language from us because she is a Christian.

Why We Celebrate St. Mary
By E.M. McCarthy
Mary, the mother of Jesus, has been much maligned in recent years. Many people mistake devotion to Mary as a sort of worshiping of her. I suppose if we truly viewed her like our own parent, we would understand Marian devotion much more clearly.

Question: I don't see anything in Scripture that says the 12 Apostles were baptized.
By De Maria
Question: I don't see anything in Scripture that says the 12 Apostles were baptized. I see where St. Paul was baptized. But not the 12. It's in there. Not everything in Scripture is explicit. Protestants, hold to a rule that everything must be explicit in Scripture. But we don't.

Mother Maria Skobtsova--The Saint of the Open door
By Larry Peterson
What follows is a brief story about a woman who would have had to be considered one of the most unlikely candidates for sainthood. A chain-smoking, twice divorced, left leaning nun with a brilliant mind and a heart so big she just could never love enough.

Not by good works which we have done
By De Maria
I frequently talk to people, Catholic and Protestant, mostly Protestant, who say that good works are not necessary for justification. Some of them will point out that St. Paul’s Epistle to St. Titus

Why do we celebrate the saints?
By Flávia Ghelardi
In Brazil, we have in June, the traditional “June Festivals,” originating from the celebrations of Saint Anthony (on the 13th), Saint John the Baptist (on the 24th) and Saint Peter (on the 29th). In these festivals, we have special dances, typical food, different games, bonfires, fireworks, all in honor of those dear saints. But what is the reason the Catholic Church honors the memory of the saint

Commentary on Matthew 16:13-23, the Rock
By De Maria
This is another wonderful passage which I frequently use to explain the Papacy to Protestants, and to anyone really.

How to love the sinner
By Susan Skinner
There's a saying that says, "Love the sinner, hate the sin," but in today's world we often see the acceptance of sin and we call people Pharisees if they believe the law should be followed. But there is a distinction between people who have love in their hearts and follow the law, and those who only follow the law but have no love.

Saint Anna Schaffer---Bedridden and in Constant Pain from being Burned, She Gave it all to Jesus
By Larry Peterson
The number of saints in the Catholic Church numbers in the thousands. In fact, the exact number is open to question. Among these are many saints most of us have never heard of. These saints are the obscure spiritual gems whose stories can take your breath away. Say "hello" to Anna Schaffer.

Fire Power
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
There is another fire that is designed to "renew the face of the earth." It's the fire that Jesus spoke of with such ardor: "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!" (Lk 12:49).

I was "Isidored" by Two Catholics and a Hebrew; It was Great*
By Larry Peterson
I never knew a Catholic/Christian named Isidore. I had always thought that the name, Isidore, was primarily a Hebrew/Jewish name. In fact, several years ago, when my cousin, Vicki, discovered who our mysterious, missing grandfather was, his name turned out to be Isidore.

What is True Love?
By Catherine Garrett
When God decided to redeem the world, He gave us His only Son, Jesus Christ. He gave us Himself to be born, be exiled, live, be killed, and rise from the dead for us. He gave up everything He knew for us and our salvation.
