Believe in the Light!
By Kathy Lamb
Father Adam once gave an analogy of hiking in the dark compared to loss of faith. With a flashlight we get enough light to see a little of the trail but not the whole thing. I don’t know the rest. Made it was something about our faith growing dim and now we can’t see clearly.

the dreaded R word
By Tess Shore
Going on a retreat can be daunting. It begins with the anxiety of trying to clear your schedule so you can just go. Then, you need to figure out what to take with you. Then, you continuously ask yourself if you want to put the money out for a retreat. Finally, you even question whether going on this retreat is the right choice.

Lord, Help Me to Forgive Myself!
By Andree Ory
“Uuuuggh…I’m a horrible human being. Why did I just do that? What will he/she/they think of me now? I hate myself right now. I could crumble on the floor and die right here. How humiliating,” Sound familiar?

Doubting Purgatory
By Kathy Lamb
I appreciate the homily you gave on Purgatory last Sunday. I know many people struggle with a belief in Purgatory especially since our separated brethren don’t believe Purgatory is real.

When St. Dymphna Came into Our Lives Everything Changed---Along Came Mary Dymphna
By Larry Peterson
Loretta and I were living in northern New Jersey and had two sons, one was six and the other two. We were hoping to have a girl but my wife had been told that she would never have any more children. So be it. We had been blessed with two healthy sons.

Mary Our Heavenly Advocate
By Kathy Lamb
Why does the Catholic Church teach us that it’s okay to pray to Mary? The Church not only teaches us that it’s okay to pray to Mary but that it’s a good thing to do and encourages us to pray to Mary.

(not so) Tongue Tied
By Janice Bostic
If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide their whole bodies. It is the same with ships: even though they are so large and driven by fierce winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot's inclination wishes. In the same way the tongue is a small member and yet has great pretensions.

A Prayerful Nation
By Crysaly Aviles
In the wake of the recent tragedies from terrorism in Orlando, Florida and Turkey; and most recently a massacre in Dallas - I am reminded that we were once a nation under God. There was a time when we prayed as a whole for God’s instruction and intervention and were blessed by it. Today we are divided by race and religion.

Prayers for the Dallas P.D.
By Joseph Michael
The tragic and evil events that took place in Dallas have opened a wound in our national fabric not seen since 9/11. Nationwide, the family members of law enforcement officers like myself hurt today. Those of us who know what it is to wait up at night for our loved ones to come home are in mourning.

My Awesome Experience with Confession
By Karen Cubberly
For those who know me now, I am a frequent confession goer (if that is even a correct phrase). But I was not always so diligent and I was afraid and concerned about the priest and interacting with him afterwards (since I just told him what a horrible person I am) and being totally open and honest in the sacrament when confessing my sins.

How should we respond to tragedy?A young Catholic's perspective.
By Jacob Escobedo
Our nation and the world at large has sustained several recent disastrous events. These aren’t the first tragedies that we’ve suffered and they definitely won’t be the last. Sadly, this world is home to individuals who act on their free will to inflict undue harm. So now the question is, how should we as Catholics react to the horrible occurrences that have transpired?

Is good the absence of evil?
By Troy Kroening
The difference between good and evil can probably be best shown with light and dark. Darkness is the absence of light. By removing the light, you have darkness. You do not add anything, just remove. But can you remove darkness? Taking it away does nothing. The only way to get rid of darkness is to introduce light.

Repent
By Crysaly Aviles
Repent. At face value it means to be sorry for something bad that we did. However, with God repentance means to turn from our evil ways and not repeat the behavior that we are sorry for. True repentance requires that we feel sorry for transgressing God and not sorry that we were caught. There is a big difference.

Bind Their Kings in Chains
By Nicholas Modelski
Although I’ve tried off and on since college, I’ve really made a concerted effort in the past few months to pray Morning and Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours every day. So far I haven’t missed any, but I’ll admit, sometimes Morning Prayer gets delayed until 5 pm.

From Grief, or Struggle, or Hardship- To Grace
By Teresa Hurst
Today, I was finishing a book I’m reading by my dear friend, Jeannie Ewing, entitled: From Grief to Grace, The Journey from Tragedy to Triumph, published by Sophia Institute Press. The impetus of this book is in sharing her story and struggles with being the mother of a medically fragile child. There is a wellspring of thought-provoking gems—from redemptive suffering to Divine Mercy—
