The World Wasn't Made in Seven Days
By JP Nunez
The very first story in the Bible says that God made the world in seven days (Genesis 1:1-2:3). It tells us that God made different things on each of the first six days, and then on the seventh, after his work as completed, he rested.

Day 301 – The Feeding the Five Thousand (Redux)
By David Vermont
Today we read John’s version of the feeding of the 5,000 with the loaves and the fishes. Remember that together with the Resurrection the feeding of the 5,000 is the only miracle that is recounted in all four Gospels. John adds an important detail: Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. John 6:4

Remembering My "Father in Christ Jesus"
By Robert Atkinson, M.I.
As we lay William Franklin Graham Jr. to rest, my heart is overcome with fragrance of memories. This may seem strange to many of my readers, this being a Catholic site, but the fact is that conversion is a process, sometimes a life long process. That’s where my memories begin, at the beginning, as Saint Paul says in 1 Corinthians 4:15, (NABRE)

Day 300 – How Do You "Come To" the Lord?
By David Vermont
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. John 5:39-40 It’s clear that in this verse Jesus is referring to the Old Testament scriptures. It’s a verse that’s a real problem for Protestant proponents of Sola Scriptura.

Things I Would not Have Learned if I Bailed out of Marriage Early
By Rose Cuervo
Once upon a time, my husband became unemployed for many years and my ambition-ridden self could not see how he could be the permanent dreamboat that I had imagined spending my life with. I was also not getting used to having all the preference I have articulated put to the wayside and my independence curtailed.

My Life for Your Freedom---The Mercedarians Practice What They Preach: One of Them is St. Serapion of Algiers
By Larry Peterson
Four years ago a newly ordained Mercedarian priest was assigned to our parish. Father Scott Brentwood was 31 years old and showed up wearing the traditional habit of his order. The habit was all white and, as Father walked toward his new parish, watching him approach was like taking a peek into the middle ages. It was an awesome sight to behold!

The Elephant in the Room
By Joe Richard
A few weeks ago, i was having some serious medical problems. I won’t go into detail here, but it's sufficient to say that this condition could have killed me. And there is still a chance of that. Two different specialists told me there was nothing more they could do. I was getting worse every day. I had no real hope left, and I began to accept my situation. I finally realized i was at peace

Day 299 – The Relationship of Jesus to the Father
By David Vermont
In today’s reading, it seems like Jesus is stating two conflicting things. First, he states: But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” John 5:17 The Jews are outraged because they see this as Jesus making himself equal to the Father.

The Beauty of Love
By Flávia Ghelardi
True love has an indescribable beauty. Overcomes all suffering and is capable of accomplishing the deepest longings of our soul. Do we really know this kind of love? Have we experienced it? Is it possible to live it in our society that is so individualistic and utilitarian?

Communion and Politics as Liturgical Correctness
By Anthony S. Layne
Recently, the Catholic blogosphere got the news that Cdl. Robert Sarah, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, had delivered himself of a strong condemnation of receiving communion in the hand. In the foreword of a new book by Fr. Frederico Bortoli concerning distribution in the hand,

Growing In Faith..... and oh so much more!
By Jean Smith
One day as I was perusing through an old art drawer I came across a journal with the Footprints prayer written on it. As I look at it I remembered how I acquired this. It was when the Christian child care center that I supervised for 7 years closed. It seems so long ago now.

The "Little Flower" and Our Lady of the Smile
By Larry Peterson
St. Therese was born January 2, 1873 and I want to share my favorite story about this Saint. It happened when she was ten years old, and the result was not just the “Little Flower’s” miraculous recovery from an unknown and life-threatening illness, but it also was the beginning of devotion to what became known as Our Lady of the Smile.

During Lent and Women's History Month, Read Pope Francis's "Mother Mary: Inspiring Words" – A Book Review
By Justin McClain
As a lay Dominican with a strong affinity for the Rosary, I look forward to every opportunity to highlight the remarkable role in salvation history of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as the Mother of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are thankfully in an era of popes with a great deal of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
