Does God Want Us To Pay For Our Past Sins, Or Pray?
Eileen Renders
We believe in God and in the Ten Commandments, yet we are often very lax in practicing them. We are all human and have all been guilty of sin
throughout our lives. There will come a Judgement Day for all of us, when at the end of our lives we stand in front of God. Many of us, as we grow older, cannot deny that
There is some fear associated with death. Whether it be the very act of dying or the consequences that may await us after death, the fear is unmistakable. Although we may
have matured in our faith somewhat, and as we become seniors, there are fewer sins to be accountable for. Now we wonder, “What is this fear that keeps nagging at our
hearts?” Or we might ask ourselves, “Is there any way I could have progressed in my spiritual life through a different way of approaching God?” The uneasiness that keeps
nagging at us may be the precursor of the fear that takes a seat in our mind and our hearts and never goes away.” It is never too late to make it up to God, our sincere
feelings of regret in how we may not have given God the honor and time He so wants from us. The Good News is that it is never too late! Whenever someone hurts us
purposely through their actions or words, we feel it deeply. This is especially true when the one who hurt us is someone we truly love. The sins we continue to commit
without remorse or a sincere attempt to sin no more also hurt God, our Creator, who loved us all, or we might not have been born. This is why we all need to focus on
Christ in meditation, in prayer, through rosaries, and in the Church. Doing this frequently in prayer is just as beneficial to us as it is to God. The sincerity of our apology
and our active consciousness of wanting to sin no more make our Sacrament of Reconciliation with God much more in line with God’s desire. It also provides us with a
sense of relief and a true feeling of atonement. We become filled with a stronger desire to please God and to remain faithful to Him, and begin to feel His presence in our
When God sees and feels that our sincere approach to Him is done with love, He is pleased with us. This is a time of healing and the beginning of divine gifts from
above. Have you ever seen a blind person play the piano without any Lessons, or a deaf person sing beautifully, gifts from God. We, too, will begin to feel God in our
presence, become more attuned to the importance of the next world, and begin to detach our every thought from this world we now live in. God’s gifts to us include
wisdom, understanding, joy, empathy, sincerity, peace, evangelism, and much more. May we always feel the presence of God with us.
