What is Freedom?
By Kathy Wilmes
Recent events in Paris have compelled me to think, share, and write my thoughts about the word freedom. What exactly is freedom? How should we, as a Catholic Christian people use our freedoms in a society in which, increasingly, everything we say or do can be categorized under some form of freedom?

Qui est Charlie? Interpreting the Words of Francis in Light of Charlie Hebdo
By Anthony Gockowski
“Je Suis Charlie,” a slogan adopted by supporters of free speech and freedom of expression, has been embraced worldwide by journalists, musical artists and a variety of celebrated publications in response to the massacre of twelve people at the headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The Sin of Blasphemy is NOT "Free Speech"
By Larry Peterson
Asia Bibi, a mother of five and a Catholic, languishes in a Pakistani prison. She has been there for five years. She waits for them to come and drag her to the gallows where she will be hanged by the neck until dead. Why? Because, to the Muslims, working alongside her in the fields, she was an "Infidel".

Should The Church make compromises with popular (pop) culture?
By Mario A. Magaña
Compromises, as you may know, are good and proper in certain situations, but not in all. For example, if I like Italian food, but my family members (those I live with) like Japanese food, and we all want to eat the food we like always, it is in good order to make a compromise for an agreement to be reached making it possible for all to eat the food we like often.

5 Uncommon Reasons to Keep Your Unborn Child
By Matthew Sewell
When St. John Paul II walked out onto the balcony after being elected pope in 1978, the first words out of his mouth were, “Be not afraid!!” Those were strong words back then, when many Christians across the world, including in his home nation of Poland, were being severely oppressed under Communist rule.

Marriage and Family: Pre and Post Woodstock
By Larry Peterson
This opening paragraph quotes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church; #1603: "The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws....God Himself is the author of marriage."

St. Germaine of Pibrac: Patron of Abused Children, Please Intercede with Our Lord for our little ones!
By Frank Lloyd
On June 15th, Roman Catholics celebrate the Feast day of St. Germaine Cousin, the Patroness of Abused Children. Born in Pibrac, a village in the south of France, little Germaine was challenged from birth with a paralyzed right hand. Shortly after Germaine’s birth, her mother passed away leaving her in the care of her young father, a man said to have been of weak character.

So You're a "Person of Faith" and "PRO-Choice"? Really? Which Faith?
By Frank Lloyd
With the forty-first Anniversary of the “Roe vs. Wade” decision almost upon us, I am hoping someone might provide an answer to and clear up a question I’ve had for many years now. I often hear many of those who claim to be “people of Faith”, including some people that I deeply care for, say that they are “Pro-choice” and make declarations such as, “Although I’m against it, I would never IMPOSE

Infallibility and What It Means
By David R. Myers
I’m writing this column as a result of responses I received to an earlier column in which I gave practical advice to Catholics who find themselves in dialogues with non-Catholic Christians.

Remembering "THE PICTURE" Killing"Little Christy"
By Larry Peterson
If there is one thing that is etched into my mind when I think back about the year of 2014 it is THE PICTURE. I am not trying to be graphic or shocking or anything like that. I am just trying to show how an innocent child can be brutally murdered on camera because she was born Christian, killed for propaganda purposes, and the outcry from the world is barely audible. I do not understand.

Mary-Mother of God--the "Theotokos"
By Al Vargo
I wrote this article on 1/1/10--in Honor of this special celebration of The Church: The Solemnity of Mary, here are some thoughts on Mary--mother of Jesus, who is God, ergo Mary is the Mother of God--the "Theotokos". To start--we must read Scripture from the eyes of the Hebrew people--it is written for them and by them, inspired by the Spirit, of course.

Christianity Under Attack: Religious Freedom Protects It. Without it Many Die. May God Bless and Preserve America's Freedoms
By Larry Peterson
Countless articles, essays, blogs and so forth will be in print as we welcome in the New year of 2015. I'm not going to reminisce or wallow in what might have been or what should be. I just want to mention a family to you. Maybe you have heard of them, maybe not. Their names were Magdy Tawfiq, his wife, Sahar Rizk ,and their daughters, Catherine, 13 and two younger girls aged 10 and aged 9.

When Thinking "Family", Two Teenagers Set the Bar For Us All
By Larry Peterson
The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family on the Sunday following Christmas. If you are among the millions of folks who never pay an iota of attention to this family, maybe you should. Why? Because this is the family that "set the bar" for all families.

Can We Still Live as Inspired People?
By Michael Ripple
The other day I was making my way through the bookstore at the Cleveland Institute of Music- just killing some time. Wow! If you've never had the chance and you are a music score junky--I highly recommend it. Who would have thought that so much history, culture, creativity, and paper could be found in a 15 by 15 room? Stacked to the ceiling notations, operas, etudes, papers, books, and scores.

Baby Jesus, Thor, and the Origin of the Christmas Tree
By Matthew Sewell
When the average person thinks of a Catholic saint, I’d venture to guess that it’s not a fearless, axe-wielding, hammer-breaking, oak-crushing, converter of heathens that comes to mind. And yet, that’s exactly the kind of guy St. Boniface was.

Christmas Traditions in the United Kingdom
By Father John A. Dane
Among the things I remember most about Christmas growing up in South Yorkshire, are the mouth-watering smells emanating from our kitchen in a typical mining village home. The kitchen wasn't large at all, but it was modern by the standards of that day. There was a double gas-ring on which pans holding various vegetables were shuffled around as needed.
