"Your Pope"
By Cindy Ellis
I don’t know about you, but the day that Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Buenos Aires, Argentina was elected Supreme Pontiff, March 13, 2013, he suddenly became “Your Pope”. My non-Catholic friends and family were truly excited by his election and his first public appearance so they coined this phrase to refer to Pope Francis.

Baby Turtles or Baby People--and the Winner is; Decide for Yourself
By Larry Peterson
We have in place in this country a law called the Endangered Species Act. Under this act, wildlife considered "endangered" are protected by law from being killed, or maimed or harmed in anyway. There are many good points to this law as some of our most revered wildlife, like the Bald Eagle, have been saved from possible extinction. But, what about the "Baby People"? Don't they count?

Can What Kills Us Make Us Stronger
By Judy Landrieu Klein
Lent is a time for unlocking. Unlocking the doors to hope. And unlocking the doors of our hearts that keep us stuck in fear and trembling, imagining what might befall us. Jesus stands in our midst, saying: “Peace be with you.” (John 20:19)

Perfection Considered As Mystery
By Mark Connolly
Can we be perfect human beings? If not, then why try? If we wanted to try to become perfect, against all odds, what would that mean in our fallen world? What would this effort look like?

The State of Our Catholic Schools
By Cynthia Trainque
The good news about Catholic schools is that -- according to the website for the USCCB -- "National test scores, high school graduation rates, college attendance and other data show that Catholic schools frequently outperform schools in both the public and private sectors".

Becoming Catholic Again – The Beginning
By Petty Shackleford Brechin
I am a post-Vatican II, cradle Catholic. Twelve years of Catholic school and all the Sacraments I could receive. I was taught to pray and attended Church every Sunday. As soon as I left home, I left the Church. Why?

The Immigration "Problem"
By Dennis McIntyre
Over the course of the last few months, America has been discussing the subject of immigration; specifically our broken immigration system, securing our borders, the impact on an already financially strapped America; and most importantly what do we do with those that have entered this country illegally.

Finding Quiet In A Carnival World
By Amy Alexander
For many around the world, Fat Tuesday is just another day. There are no parades or feasts. In South Louisiana, though, the parades, with beads tossed from semi-sized floats bearing colorful, grinning paper heads and ear-splitting, jazz blasting bands, show up after New Year’s and end on the evening before Lent officially begins.

Gotta Tree to Climb!!
By Elizabeth Thomas
At that time, Jesus came to Jericho and intended to pass through the town. Now a man there named Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man, was seeking to see who Jesus was;

50 Beams of Light
By Melanie R. Cameron
Some popular book made into a popular film claims to know what men and women really want in our deepest desires. Here are 50 shades of light - not only what men and women want in our deepest desires, but what we were made for in our deepest being. These excerpts are about true love and marriage from the Vatican Information Service posts over the past two years.

We are Called
By Lori Conklin
I am one of millions of cradle Catholic’s who had no idea of the richness of the Faith. Good thing God doesn’t require us to be experts; only willing. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with our first child that I realized how much I didn’t know about my Faith.

The Lover's First Concern
By Kara Klein
A long time ago I met a man who was everything I wanted and more. He had the perfect job, background, faith, intellect and personality for me. But (drum roll please!)… He could not have cared less about me if he tried. For months I could not get away from this guy. I would see him everywhere, and he would avoid me like the plague. Yet despite how he treated me, I could not get him off my mind and

How the Carmelites Rescued me from the New Age
By Anabelle Hazard
I lost my marbles between the pages of my first new age book, a dizzying but feel good fiction novel. Naturally, with a few marbles short, I picked up another new age fiction, and this time the confusion blended with some fascination, so that I kept returning to the new age shelf in the bookstore, holding my breath for Oprah’s next recommendation.

Bride of Christ? or Bridezilla?
By Melanie R. Cameron
Let me start by saying, I reject the term "Bridezilla." It isolates, insults, and altogether judges a woman who is preparing to receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony and preparing to give the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony to her future spouse. In no way, shape, or form does the term "Bridezilla" reflect a bride's calling to marriage.

Fractured Grammar
By Rosemary Bogdan
Perhaps it is just my linguistics training, but I find myself increasingly annoyed by the fracturing of grammar rules that seems to be the newest trend in signage and advertising. At my gym a sign next to the wipes for cleaning the machines says “We like clean.” Not we like cleanliness, or we like our machines clean. Just “We like clean.”

A Re-Awaking of Spirit
By Lorrie McNickle
For the past year and a half I have been on an extended faith journey. I say “extended” because as a Cradle Catholic and “mostly” practicing one, I have felt a pull to learn and dive more deeply into the depths and doctrines of our Faith and why we have them. What I have discovered has rocked my world!
