It Ain't Heavy - It's Just a Cross
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
When the burdens of life weight us down, we may feel at times that we are carrying far more than our own weight. From the time of Christ, society has given a name to these burdens - they're called crosses. Even before Jesus carried and died on his own cross, he told his followers, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me" (Lk 9:23).

By Joe Richard
The term “Pentateuch” means five books. The Jews call it the Torah. It is after all, part of their Holy Scripture. Whatever name you call it, the term refers to the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures, also known as the Old Testament.

A Greater Love
By Marie Murphy Duess
Fortunately, most of us are not called upon to lay down—or even risk—our lives for a friend, although we wonder if we’d have the courage to do so. Throughout history, ordinary people have proven they had extraordinary resilience and valor to protect other persons even if it meant risking or losing their own lives. m

Stick-to-it-iveness in a Teflon World
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
Every culture has its own particular gestures for specific meanings - some of which may seem strange to us. But one of the few body language gestures that anthropologists recognize as being common to all nationalities and tribes on earth is the tossing upward of the hands as an expression of frustration. It's a sign of letting go, giving up - a "what's-the-use?" sort of gesture.

On Being Judgmental
By Rob Agnelli
“Do not judge, lest ye be called judgmental.” In a world that has lost a sense of sin, there remains one unforgivable sin—being judgmental. Many who are biblically illiterate can readily quote Jesus’ admonition “Stop judging, that you may not be judged” (Mt 7:1).

God's Endless Grace
By Ralph Hathaway
Grace is a most powerful yet most revealing portion of God’s deep Love to share His Life and Love with us (Col. 1: 26). Let’s take a moment to digest the real impact on each of us when God’s Grace enters into our very being, not filtering down as pixy dust or something misunderstood, but an actual infusion of Divine Peacefulness and a quality freely given

The Desecration of Isis and What We Can Do About It.
By James Berkon
Two days ago, I witnessed something I never thought I would see in my lifetime, a Catholic Church being destroyed, burnt to the ground. Isis Militants in the Southern Region of the Philippines invaded a church, ransacking the sanctuary, throwing statues to the ground, smashing them into nothing.

There's a fine balance between being a strong father and alienating your children. It's a fine line I don't always walk too gracefully, especially, in recent weeks, according to my wife.

Catholic Human Sexuality
By E.M. McCarthy
In today’s world, we are told that the Catholic Church is “outdated” because of its teachings, especially about human sexuality. It’s the world that doesn’t understand sex, not the Holy Spirit.

Why Racetracks Run Counterclockwise
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
The Bible affirms that our lifetime (not just the time of our life) is short and uncertain. And we must "render an account of our stewardship" of that time load Above all time is precious. In Ben Franklin's words, "If time be of all things most precious, wasting time must be the greatest prodigality." Think about it!

The Law and the Spirit
By Ralph Hathaway
Matthew chapter 5, 27-30, gives a very poignant example of an issue that has plagued my thoughts for many years. “If I look at a woman with lust what kind of person am I since it is not easy to control some thoughts as a man when I know what I am supposed to do when impure thoughts enter my mind”.
