As a mom of three little ones and a wife to a busy EMT, I'm a fairly busy person. Between feeding and caring for everyone (and the animals), changing diapers, doing laundry and dishes, and mowing I tend to have a lot of activities in my day! One of the things I have scheduled is prayer time. Before meals, at 1 PM, and at bedtime we say prayers. When I remember, I also start a rosary (hopefully my guardian angel finishes it for me!). When we pass our church I have made a habit of making the Sign of the Cross and the girls say "Hi Jesus!" And I know it must make God smile because it definitely makes me smile!
Teaching my kids to pray is one of the biggest 'jobs' I think any mom could have. Leading by example is so clichè to say, but it is so true! It's not always a popular choice to turn off the radio or DVD player in our van to pray a rosary (or at least start one) but it is a choice I always feel better about making when my girls join in saying the Hail Mary's. I also have worn a brown scapular for years now and as my girls have gotten older they have asked me for a "necklace" of their own! We sing in the contemporary group at our church and it is always so wonderful to hear them randomly singing songs from church in the car or around the house.
While I feel like there is definitely more I can do prayer wise, I also feel like helping my kids develop their own prayer life brings a new perspective for me. Having faith "like a child" is a blessing I hope to foster in my kids and maybe attain again myself!
Mary, Our Mother, pray for us!
