Our Shepherd Among Us: Reminiscences and Reflections (Part Three)
By Justin Soutar
After making the short flight from New York to Philadelphia on Saturday morning, September 26, Pope Francis found himself standing in front of historic Independence Hall that afternoon, where he delivered an important address on the topic of religious liberty to the substantial crowd gathered on the Mall.

Sunday Dinner Reveals Graces of Family Crosses
By Dean P. Johnson
A couple of Sundays ago, I was sitting at the head of our dining room table. It was one of those moments when you can almost step out of yourself completely, step away from what is going on around you, away from the moment, just to peek back in from an entirely different point of view.

In The War on Terror: Time to Say "NO" to Political Correctness and "YES" to Prayer
By Larry Peterson
On the Monday morning after the Friday of Satan, she left class and stopped at a cafe for a cup of coffee. The headline of the newspaper read, Sorrow and Rage. She thought, "What should I do?"

Pope St. Eleutherius
By Debra Booton McCoy
Pope St. Eleutherius was a Greek, son of Habundius, born in Nicopolis, part of what is now Greece, some time after 100 AD. His name means "frank, honest, free-spirited". Whether that is his real name or a description of the man is unknown. Eleutherius was Bishop of Rome from about 175 to May 24, 189 AD. It is said that he was martyred at that time.

Hope and Healing After Abortion: God's Mercy Endures Forever
By Nancy Marie Murray
Pope Francis’s recent call for mercy and forgiveness for women who have had an abortion may have people wondering at this seeming change of Catholic Church policy. But as someone who has personally experienced the lasting grief and regret of abortion and also found healing and hope through the Church,

Our Shepherd Among Us: Reminiscences and Reflections (Part One)
By Justin Soutar
Towards the end of last month, our Holy Father Pope Francis made his eagerly anticipated Pastoral Visit to the United States. Like those of his saintly predecessors—the cerebral trailblazer Paul VI, the energetic actor John Paul II and the scholarly gentleman Benedict XVI—Francis’ visit to America was an historic and memorable occasion that was shared and experienced by millions of Catholics

Be Saints
By Saoirse Godbout
Have you ever noticed that most children seem to go through a phase of wanting to be famous? They dream and long for the day when they’ll be president or on T.V., thinking “Sure, most people who want to be president fail, but not me!

The Debt I Owe
By Richard Maffeo
In May of this year, Pope Francis once again appealed to the Church for Christian unity. Like Saint (Pope) John Paul II, or Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI before him, Pope Francis recognizes the Satanic root of our division. Here is part of what Pope Francis said:*

An Introduction to the Five Ways of St. Thomas Aquinas, Part 12
By Bob Hunt
After the death of Thomas Aquinas in 1274, opponents of his teaching emerged almost immediately, especially among the Franciscans. His confreres among the Dominicans came to Thomas’ defense, joined later by the Jesuits, and for a great while these two camps defined the place of Thomas in Catholic philosophical and theological discussion.

Pope St. Soter
By Debra Booton McCoy
In our ongoing study of the popes, we come to Soter. The twelfth bishop of Rome, was born in Fondi, Lazio, located between Rome and Naples, according to tradition. He probably was born after the death of the last apostle, John, and probably after many of the people who had ever had the blessing to meet the Apostles.

Somewhere, Over The Rainbow ... Lies a False Pot of Gold
By Chris Cappannelli, EdD
In my last contribution, I discussed the response of the “average, rank-and-file” Catholic, and a significant showing of apparently approving, even celebratory, responses to the Obergefell decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in June of this year.

Contraception: Panacea or Poison?
By Dr. Susan Caldwell
Many Catholics argue about the answer to this question: Is contraception good or bad, a panacea or a poison? As a lifelong Catholic and medical doctor, my answer to this question has changed over time. I have always known that the Church says “NO” to the use of contraception. I haven’t always known, however, why the Church denounced this practice. Now I know the answer.

Protestant At Heart?
By Mike Bugal
I recently was involved in a discussion with another author on this website in which he proposed that two mutually exclusive religions (Catholicism and Judaism) are both true. He cited a statement by Cardinal Walter Kasper of Germany that the religion of the Jews today is salvific for them.

For those who haven’t heard, Pope Francis wrote an encyclical on the environment called Laudato Si, which means “Praise to You”. The opening paragraph gets right to the point.
