Goodbye "Little Bro"--You and Your Watermelon are Forever in Our Hearts
By Larry Peterson
This picture was taken at my daughter's wedding and it was a happy day. Facing the picture, the young fellow on the left is my "baby" brother, Johnny. The one to his left in the back is my brother, Bobby. I am to the far right, my sister, Carolyn, is in front of me and my brother, Danny, is to her left in front of Bobby.

Romans 5:2
By Mariel Roersma
Romans 5:2 says,"Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory." None of us are perfect, and because of that, we don't really deserve to be here on Earth. But yet we are. We are here to strive to be like Christ, to lead others to Him, and to show others God's goodness.

Why can't a Catholic take communion in a Protestant church?
By Barbara Golder
I hear it a lot, this question of why a Catholic can’t tke communion in a Protestant service, especially from Catholics whose extended famiies include a lot of Protestant relatives. Most often, there is appeal to neighborliness. “I know it’s not the same, but is just seems rude not to go up and receive, espeically when they ask me to..”

What We Really Need
By Richard Maffeo
Darkness cannot coexist with light. Not only does Scripture declare this to be true, but experience also testifies to it. Walk into any dark room and flip the light switch. Darkness flees even from the corners. But turn off the light, or shroud it with a thick fabric, and darkness floods back.

Power to the People
By Michael D. Greaney
Thanks to Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment, the issue of world government is once again a topic of serious discussion among thoughtful people of all faiths.

On the Tongue and From A Priest
By Dan Goddu
I stopped receiving Holy Communion in the hand about 5 years ago. Around the same time, I stopped being an Euchartistic Minister. I typically will not receive the Precious Blood. And almost always, I will receive Holy Communion only from a priest (I do make exceptions for a deacon).

Congregational Myopia
By Deacon Vernon Dobelmann
If your parish church was suddenly uprooted and gone, what would the local community experience in its absence? This question was posed at a workshop I attended many years ago and I have since used it in some of my own presentations. The answers are astounding.

Where is the Outrage?
By Rusty Korhonen
I see commercials showing abused puppies and other stomach-turning scenes. Animal abuse is terrible and sad and should be stopped. I've read that animal abuse is now considered a Felony in many states. The reaction to the pictures and video is visceral and physical. The footage is followed by a message from the ASPCA or PETA soliciting money for their cause.

5 Ways to be Ready for the End of times or Does it really matter what the doomsday sayers are saying?
By Mallory Hoffman
Things happen. That's the way of life. A flare of the sun does not mean that this is an omen from God.

Holy Communion: Real Presence, or Purely Symbolic? Part 2
By Jeff Sokol
In Part One, we discussed the Gospel of John 6, and delve into why Jesus could not have rationally been speaking metaphorically, when discussing the eating and drinking of His flesh and blood. In this Part Two, we’ll discover some other, more concrete reasons why the Eucharist is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ.

Holy Communion: Real Presence, or Purely Symbolic? Part 1
By Jeff Sokol
This debate is constant. I have toiled and fought to uphold the real presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist since I first learned about it myself. Why? Because Jesus can’t make it any more clear, and too many people are A.) Missing the point entirely, and B.) not taking advantage of the ABUNDANT graces and healing that comes from adoring and receiving the Eucharist. I’d like to put thi

Genuflecting To The True Presence
By Debra Booton McCoy
Why do we genuflect on entering a Catholic church? Because the Lord is present in the tabernacle. And we know that because the Lord is present in the Eucharist and the extra consecrated hosts are in a ciborium, locked in the tabernacle. But how do we know that?

Baptism: Part 2 Saved in Baptism
By Kevin Noles
The Catholic asks the Protestant, “Does Baptism save us?” The Protestant replies, “No.” The Catholic then turns to the only authority that the Protestant yields to, which is Holy Scripture, and that says yes (1 Peter 3:21). Instead of yielding to Holy Scripture as they claim, they instead are yielding to man-made traditions, those that are actually condemned by Jesus, instead of the Word of God

Breathing with Both Lungs
By Matthew Newsome
The sight of people carrying tasselled prayer ropes may be common in Eastern monasteries, but it is decidedly less so in the southern Appalachian mountains. So when my pastor and I were comparing our chotkis after Mass one recent Sunday, it’s no surprise that we garnered a lot of questions from curious parishioners.

Bill Maher is Right
By Shawn Roche
I bet that headline got a lot of people’s attention. It’s probably the main reason you’re reading this now. Does everyone remember the famous atheist’s remark a few weeks ago about “Christians loving to feel persecuted”?

The Real Supreme Court.
By Greg Schlueter
Nature. We didn't determine it. It has determined us. It is not a matter of religious adherence, only regard for what is undeniably true, and common sense. No argument surpasses the one the body has already made: Same sex bodies simply don't fit together, nor can their sexual processes accomplish what they are undeniably designed to accomplish

By Caitlin Bootsma
The debate over issues such as same-sex “marriage” has only intensified in recent weeks, and conversations with those we disagree with can be frustrating.
