Day 28 – Jesus and Tradition
By David Vermont
In today’s reading Jesus speaks about traditions that negate the word of God. Naturally, Jesus condemns these traditions. However, scripture also says, “So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.” (2 Thes 2:15) How are we to reconcile these two statements?

God Doesn't Care if You Get Ice Cream
By Katie Zalany
Lately, I find myself asking God if I should go somewhere or get something that I often don’t really need but want – like ice cream.

If Jesus had a hashtag
By Amelia Monroe Carlson
Today’s world is filled with social media status updates, memes, and…of course…hashtags. There are hashtags for everything from animals, politicians, breaking news, to faith. But, I wonder if Jesus had a Twitter or Instagram account, what his hashtag would be.

Day 27 – You of Little Faith
By David Vermont
Today we read the famous scene where Jesus walks on water and approaches a boat carrying the Apostles. They think they are seeing a ghost and are terrified. After Jesus identifies himself, Peter says, “Lord if it is you, bid me come to you on the water.”

The Culture of Divorce
By Flávia Ghelardi
We live in the world of the disposable: if it's broken, you buy a new one; in a world of immediate satisfaction, with just one click, you have everything in your hands now.

Catholics Should Learn How to Dance
By Melanie Jean Juneau
Is joy at the heart of your life in Christ? Many Catholics feel beleaguered as they struggle to stand up for the truth in an increasingly hostile environment. Of course, it is easy to become so busy addressing serious moral and religious issues that our spirituality is relegated to Sunday Mass and a few Hail Marys rattled off on the run.

Day 26 – The Death of John the Baptist and the Feeding of the Five Thousand
By David Vermont
Two big events in our reading of the New Testament today. First we see Herod order the death of John the Baptist based on the wishes of his step daughter. The first obvious implication of the story is to demonstrate how arbitrary and capricious Herod is with his power.

The Trouble with Most of Us
By E.M. Wilson
I have been doing a lot of spiritual reading lately for groups I’m part of and I keep seeing the phrase “most of us.” Usually, when someone uses the phrase “most of us” in spiritual reading it is not because they are about to give most of us a compliment.

Strange Gods Before Me -- Do Catholics Worship Saints and Statues?
By Cynthia Trainque
I like to hear and to read about people's conversion stories to the Catholic Church...about the process they've been through in trying to assimilate all that our glorious Faith offers us. More often than not, there tends to be some tension within them about Mary's role in the Church and in praying to her and the saints.

How to Be Patient!
By Elizabeth Thomas
Yikes, that is a hard one. How to be patient waiting for what you KNOW is coming—but in God’s perfect timing. Like a kid waiting for Christmas, or the next birthday around the bend. What about the senior about to graduate, yet those few months have to pass by. Maybe you are the new parents and it just a matter of days before you finally HOLD that child! Just how are you to be patient?

I was a Fatima Kid
By E.M. McCarthy
Today we take for granted that we have a relatively peaceful world. But not too long ago, during the Cold War, people lived with the fear a nuclear war would end creation. Not much could be done; or so we thought.

Michelangelo's masterpiece may have deeper implications on creation than you think
By Joby Provido
The Creation of Adam is probably the most recognized work of art in the Sistine Chapel, and probably in the entire art world. Basically, it is a fresco of Adam in a very relaxed position as if there is no life in him yet. Visually next to Adam is God with an outstretched finger just about to zap energy into him.

Remain In My Love
By Deacon Frederick Bartels
Uniting your human will to Christ brings happiness. This is an essential concept which the world has long rejected and which people find perplexing and difficult. Isn't my happiness found in complete human freedom? says the worldly post-modern autonomist. The false idea that following the commands of God is restrictive and unpleasurable is the widespread norm.
