By James Berkon
Nearly a year ago, I made the biggest move of my life…….from Northern Virginia to Dallas, Texas. Sure I had moved further away from home when I went on study abroad semesters to Gaming, Austria and Rome, Italy. But, this time, I was moving out on my own.

Day 41 – the Wife of Seven Brothers
By David Vermont
Today we read the famous question of the Sadducees and their attempt to trap Jesus. The Sadducees were different from the Pharisees in their theology. They did not believe in the resurrection and they accepted only the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Old Testament. (One can see a parallel in the Protestant’s rejection of some books of the Old Testament).

A Li'l Dab'll Do Ya
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
Typical spider silk, of which cobwebs are composed, is stronger than steel of the same thickness. Yet a single strand of the webbing, if it were long enough to stretch all the way around the world, would weigh less than a pound.

Mass Confusion: "Church as Hospital for Sinners"
By Greg Schlueter
"The church is not a hotel for saints, it is a hospital for sinners."- Saint Augustine. We shouldn't simply agree, we need to exemplify: are we understanding and naming the "disease"? With due recognition that healing is a process, are "medical practitioners" intentionally engaged in "healing"? Is it actually happening?

Do we respect the authority of Jesus? Even unclean spirits did!
By Troy Kroening
Jesus taught with authority. And by His authority, He commanded unclean spirits to flee. Jesus even gave “the Twelve … authority over unclean spirits.” [Mark 6:7] He did not give this authority to all of His disciples, just the Twelve that He chose. And the Twelve “drove out many demons” as we are told later in Mark 6:13.

Exhale and Hearty
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
An amazing breath analyzer developed in Columbus, Ohio, can diagnose various diseases by detecting specific chemicals in a patient's breath. Dimethyl sulfide indicates liver disease, amines are linked to lung cancer, diabetics breathe out acetone, and heart-disease persons show traces of pentane. Researchers soon hope to be able to detect colon cancer and other deadly diseases,

The Mysteries of the Rosary: The Second Joyful Mystery
By Jonathan Hayes
There are a number of observations that should be made here. For one, it is interesting that Mary and Elizabeth meet with each other immediately after each had a miraculous conception.

Day 39 – Jesus confronts some Pharisees
By David Vermont
In today’s famous scene the Pharisees question Jesus as to where he gets his authority. Jesus answers their question with a question. “Whence did John’s baptism come, from heaven or men?” The Pharisees cannot answer, knowing that if they say, “From heaven” they should have followed John, and if they say “from men” they will upset the crowds. The Pharisees refuse to answer.

Ways to Read God's Love Letter
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
One of the things that motivate cultural archeologists to keep digging deeper after making a find is the realization that many ancient cities are "stacked" on the ruins of previous cities; often several civilizations are found at the same location.

Mary's 2nd Joy -- The Visitation of Elizabeth (Joy Series)
By Julie
The 2nd Joy of Mary is what I want to feature now. In some places it is celebrated on May 31st (as I am writing this it is that date) but it can also be celebrated on July 1st (Traditional Latin Mass Calendar).

How to Kick Yourself
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
The antenna on the atomic warhead at Hiroshima that signaled the bomb's detonation altitude was made - of all places - in Japan. Similarly, much of Iraq's weaponry employed in the Gulf War originated in America. War is replete with such ironies.

Please Don't Be Seated
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
On a tour of a palace in Austria, weary from jet lag and endless walking, I longed to sit down in any chair I could find. But every chair in the palace was obviously a precious antique, richly embroidered and exquisitely upholstered. The very ornateness of the furniture seemed to forbid me to be seated.

Day 36 –the Parable of the Servants in the Vineyard
By David Vermont
This is always one of the hardest parables for me. Jesus tells the parable of the workers hired to work in a vineyard. Some are hired early in the morning, others at noon; some others with only three hours left and some are even hired in the last hour of the day. Yet those who work only 1 hour get paid the same wages as those who worked all day.
