What Is the Nicene Creed?
By Bill Dunn
At every Sunday Mass, right after the homily, the entire congregation stands and, reading from a missalette or pew card, recites in unison the words of the Nicene Creed, which begins, “I believe in one God…” The Creed is the declaration of faith for Christians. It is a summary of the doctrines taught and believed by the Church for 2,000 years.

Maranatha - Advent 2017
By Ralph Hathaway
This year as Advent arrives, at a time of unrest and worldly distress, our hope is more than ever needed to inflame the minds of each soul. I remember a dream some time ago where the sounds and sight of bombs were going off in the not too far distance. “They are getting close” I said and upon waking still saw the vividness and fear of a future we may face.

Bereavement
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
Think for a moment of one of your loved ones who has passed away, and recall the grief you experienced at the funeral. Give yourself a numerical score for your grief at that time, on a scale from one to one hundred. Now think about the death of a victim of terrorism that you read about recently, and give yourself a “grief score” for that tragic event.

Sickness
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
Fire can cook a meal, light a candle, or provide an atmosphere of coziness in a fireplace. Yet it can also destroy a house, a town, or a forest. Water can be used for sailing, swimming, brushing one’s teeth, or making soup; but it can also destroy a town by a disastrous flood. Most objects, events, and forces in nature can produce either a good effect or a bad one.

Day 204 – The Armor of God
By David Vermont
we are well aware from Paul that Jesus is resurrected and in heaven and the Church and the faithful will be successful in obtaining eternal life and defeating death and the devil. However, even though we will be victorious that danger has not completely passed.

Tired of TURKEY? God's Got DONOTS!!!
By Elizabeth Thomas
Nope, that is not a misspelling! God serves up better than ‘donuts’---He give us ‘donots’ that have no calories, don’t plug up the arteries and keeps us ALIVE and Well when we daily eat these sweet breads.

Problems
By Rev. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F
In the midst of the stress of coping with our daily problems--some of them overwhelming--it’s difficult to apply meaningfully the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:26, telling us to come to him when we are troubled and weary; yet it is in those very trying circumstances that he promises to give us rest and peace of soul.

Christ the King Is All Powerful
By Bill Dunn
This week is the feast of Christ the King, which always occurs on the last Sunday of the Church calendar year. (And if this is the last Sunday of the Church year, then that means next week is the first Sunday of Advent, which means the Christmas season is upon us. Wow, didn’t we just celebrate Christmas, like, a couple months ago?!)

By David Vermont
Whenever discussions between Catholics and Protestants circle around to the issue of works, invariably the misunderstood notion that Catholics believe in a works based salvation is asserted so that that idea can be refuted by citing Ephesians 2:8-9
