My name is Tina Salloum. I live in the metro Detroit area.
I was baptized in the Melkite Greek Catholic Rite of the Church (eastern rite), though I've always attended the Roman Catholic Church. Most Catholics aren't familiar with the different rites, even here in Detroit, where we have a substantial middle eastern population. The Meklite rite dates back to St. Peter, when he started the Church in Antioch. For a short time the Melkites, like the Orthodox Churches, split temporarily from Rome but then, unlike the Orthodox Churches, became reunited with Rome.
I'm a cradle Catholic but didn't practice too much until I experienced a religious reversion to the faith back in October of 2013. Now I never miss Sunday Mass and even try to make Mass during the week some times. I enjoy sharing my faith with others.
