God's Gifts or God Himself ?
We can feel at times that some people are jumping the queue when it comes to blessings, that our prayers are stuck in God’s spam folder somewhere and in a spirit of false comparison we feel a bit left behind. But if you take a long view what is revealed may be quite unexpected.

The Permanent Presence of God
....perhaps we could view the hostile surroundings more like Caleb and Joshua did, not without difficulty, but conquerable with Jesus in the lead... just a thought.

The only Easy day was Yesterday
Prayer is the oxygen for the soul, without it we will shrivel up and die. The human heart is the meeting place for God and man, He is already there; (like in a zoom breakout room) waiting for us to enter, share our troubles with Him so He can immediately get to work on them.

“While He was still a long way off…”
And when they do have that moment of clarity, or change of heart, He runs to them. He doesn’t wait. He runs to them ‘clasped him in his arms and kissed him’ as the scripture puts it.

What is God Like ?
I wonder, as our Father created our immortal soul and incorporated body and soul, did we catch a glimpse of Him?

We are a long way from Eden...Illumination of Conscience
If I had any doubts that we are living in Bedlam, they were laid to rest this week after reading a story on the prolife news website (Life Site) about a Film award ceremony in Holland where the video of a Dutch pop group’s song “Kill the Baby” had been nominated for one of their ‘Golden Calf’ awards (you couldn’t make this stuff up).

Ready for Change ?
I have seen many changes in life; as a young man I sought to build my own ‘kingdom’. I worked very hard, studied simultaneously. I was ambitious, focused, hungry for success and driven. I achieved moderate success, and for a while enjoyed its benefits. I was also godless, arrogant, ruthless and fearful: - it was in many ways an appalling way to live.

Forgive our Enemies
I wondered what those who knew me in my youth would find more unlikely, that I would ever write about forgiving enemies or that Hannibal Lector would pen a vegetarian cookbook... definitely the former.

Plan 75
Often as people age or are afflicted with illness or disability their external identity diminishes. This is due to loss of jobs, finances, or apparent usefulness. Their roles shrink as their families grow-up and leave and they retire, perhaps alone when spouses die. And a God-less society is not capable of seeing true worth or dignity anymore...

Gratitude
Where a situation is more critical, we tend to have a deeper gratitude, when someone saves your life with timely CPR during a heart attack or more so, when the assistance is sacrificial as when a relative donates a kidney to extend his loved one’s life. And yet, in the most crucial drama imaginable we tend to be quite aloof and unappreciative.

Have you seen Lazarus ?
....Again the notion of wealth is rather subdued really. He had fine clothes, dined sumptuously every day; but it doesn’t mention the trappings of extreme or obscene wealth. No private jet, no yacht in the harbour, no 4×4 in the garage, no i-phone or offshore dollar account in Panama or Switzerland....

A Mighty Spiritual Battle
“I caught him with an unseen hook and an invisible line which is long enough to let him wander to the ends of the world and still bring him back with a twitch upon the thread”
