John Rieping grew up in a small agricultural town inside the big state of California with the delusion that he’d publish his first fantasy novel by age 30. To avoid being a starving writer in the meanwhile, he studied communications at Drake University in Iowa - not realizing journalists go hungry too. Between newspaper jobs, he graduated in philosophy from Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon and spent four and a half years at the Benedictine monastery of Mount Angel Abbey discerning his vocation. God’s providence led him back to his hometown and eventually to his incredible wife. He is now better fed. They worship at St. Joachim Church in Central California.
