Jimmy Patterson is the editor of the West Texas Angelus, the newspaper covering the Diocese of San Angelo in West Texas. Jimmy was a writer and editor for the Midland Reporter-Telegram for almost 20 years and published his latest book, “A History of Character: The Story of Midland, Texas,” in September, 2014.
Named national Family Columnist of the Year in 2009 by the 230-member Catholic Press Association, Jimmy was honored with two additional awards for in-depth reporting and investigative reporting by the Catholic Press Association in 2014 for his stories on the Syrian Refugee Crisis, while reporting in October 2013 from Jordan.
In 2007, he received the national Knights of Columbus-Father Michael J. McGivney Award for Distinguished Journalism for his reporting on efforts along the Texas-Mexico border to assist the economically disadvantaged residents of Boquillas, Mexico.
He is currently working on a book about Alysheba and Tomy Lee, the two Midland, Texas-owned Kentucky Derby winners.
Jimmy is also partnering with Midland oil man Jim Henry on three books, including one on Henry Resources ’ development of the Wolfberry Play, He and Jim are also working on a series of children’s stories that Mr. Henry has told his children and grandchildren over the last 40 years.
Jimmy has completed three novels with Midland criminal defense attorney Tom Morgan and in 2011 he wrote and published “50 Years: The Story of the Catholic Diocese of San Angelo.”
