Do not turn on your own. Especially when the conclusive facts are not in. This was the bitter lesson learned by the Covington Catholic High School teens at the conclusion of the March for Life. Not only the secular media, but even their own school, the Diocese of Covington, and pro-life leaders initially gave credence to the false narrative given. Many still persist.
In a column for Catholic Culture.org, Phil Lawler pointed out, “For much too long, some of the most visible spokesmen for the pro-life movement have sought desperately to be seen as respectable, to be treated fairly by the mainstream media”.
This idea that somehow the pro-life movement will gain credibility and respect from the opposition is naive at best and foolishly dangerous at worst. How many years has the pro-life movement sought acceptance and fair coverage? The answer is at least the forty-six years since Roe vs. Wade unjustly became the law of the land. If anything, the opposition and oppression is increasing as we make pro-life headway.
Even after science has conclusively proven that life begins at fertilization, that babies feel pain, that their amazing human development begins before the mother even realizes the existence of her baby – even now, the denials and claims of ‘blobs of tissue’ remain. The living proof, 3-D and 4-D evidence is even denied.
The other side exploits and lies. To expect otherwise is to be foolish and ill prepared. Manipulation continues to be their most effective weapon. Women and men fall into the trap and trust without verification. That is where we come in. We are called to be a light in the darkness. Our battle cry is "Truth".
Our faithful purpose encompasses the search for truth and the charitable sharing of educational information. The pro-abortion movement continues their false narrative by spreading fear of the unknown. They tell women (and men) experiencing an unexpected pregnancy that they have no option. We are maligned as only caring for birth. Their lies spread falsehoods about our willingness to give assistance to all who need it.
Our duty leads us to not only care and provide, but to share and inform. We stand ready with loving hearts and open arms. Let us be known for our generosity and caring spirit. Seek Truth and share it with those who most need to hear it.
Good will win out. No matter the storm, no matter the apparent earthly skills of the enemy, God’s Truth will eventually rise. His Light will pierce the darkness and His people will survive. To Him belong the time and the way. Our job is simple. Stand with Him and He will lead. The path will not always be what we expect. The timing has certainly not been what we hoped.
At the formation of the pro-life movement, no one expected the fight to continue for 46 years and beyond. The resolution most certainly will not happen when we want. It may not even happen in the ways we want. Yet it will happen. We have the power of God on our side. A new, more energetic pro-life generation has arrived on the scene. The March for Life attracts more people, especially the youth, than ever before. These are words of confidence and hope. We serve an Almighty God Who has taught His people perseverance. With persistent faith, the people of life will march onward. Our foes appear mighty but God is always by our side.
