The Real Reason: Why We do Good Works

This is a big day for me. I just finished reading the "Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska-Divine Mercy in My Soul". Considering the book is over 700 pages this was not a quick task. Filled with footnotes, it certainly is informative. And it's a work that must receive your full attention. Sometimes I choose to read and can block out the distractions of other noises around me. This book is one example where that is not possible.
To write one summary of this text between this special Polish nun and our Savior, Jesus Christ, would be an injustice. Although the overall message is one of Divine Mercy there are so many rich layers of inspiration to this book that there is much to study...much to say.
For today, I will focus on God's love for us, His human creatures. It saddens me when I hear people denounce God's existence. It also saddens me when I hear of believers who have become angry with God. Perhaps St. Faustina's insights on angels and man will help those finding themselves in these categories:
Think about this----God really has no need of creatures to make Him happy. But He is a God of endless love.
So God created the angels. God allowed them to exist and to participate in His happiness. And thus, they chanted the song of the angels "Holy, Holy, Holy".
They, the angelic spirits, were allowed to gaze upon the face of God and they glorified Him.
But one spirit refused God's mercy and pride blinded him. And tragically he gathered other angels with him. His name is Satan and he was banished to hell.
The good angels still glorified God and his mercy....
Then, amazingly, once again God made another creation-----man. He called humans into being, from the great nothingness. He made them in His own image...male and female. God did not need us to be happy. But God is full of love and wanted to share that love and happiness with His creation.
Sadly, tragically, just like the evil angels, man fell. He choose the wicked path.
But here is the key to this story....unlike the angels, God decided not to punish man. He was filled with immense compassion. Instead, He offered His only Son for our eternal salvation!
And the angels still adore Him for His endless mercy.......
So.....when one has doubts or anger, one should reflect on St. Faustina's history of the angels and mankind. God loves man (each one of us...including YOU!) so much that He offers you his DIVINE MERCY. It is His love that saves you...it does not want you to perish. His endless mercy is there for the taking!!! It is this compassion, this great MERCY that St. Faustina lived to share with the world!
Will you open your heart to this message of hope?
