Bread of Life

Imagine this – today a pregnant women is deciding the fate of her baby. She’s imagining how much responsibility it will take to raise this baby, how much money, her entire life will be different. She doesn’t want to risk it, doesn’t want to sacrifice her freedom, money, time. Those around her are saying that she needs to do what is best for her. Think about your future, you don’t want to ruin it by having a baby. Hollywood stars like Oprah Winfrey are telling woman to shout their abortions, showing pride for having done it. Michelle Wolf does a catchy number saluting abortion, while other stars praise it as a women’s choice. So she listens. This is when Jesus weeps.
The next Jeremiah, Augustine, Padre Pio, Maximilian Kolbe, Thomas Edison could be that baby who is seen as a throwaway. The one who discovers the cure for cancer, the one who could change the world, could be that baby who is seen as a throwaway. That living, breathing, heart beating human being is seen as that throwaway. It’s because we live in a society where worth is placed on convenience. And what we want is what we are going to have, whether it is right or wrong. When you live in a Godless society it will become darker because in reality what morality are you bound to? The one who breathed life into us at the very moment of conception is pushed away, deemed too “barbaric” for our modern times. So why are we still having the discussion of the barbaric act of murdering babies?
It is proven by science that at conception there is human DNA within this little individual. Not just a little amount, but the same 46 chromosomes that you carry with you today is the same as at the moment of conception. Granted a lot of your outward appearance has changed but the very basis of who you are remains the same. Until the moment you die, your DNA remains the same.
Even when you are a hundred years old, the DNA at conception remains the same. So why are the elderly mistreated? Assisted suicide is significantly increasing and even states within America authorize it. As with anything this will more than likely evolve into an even more tragic travesty. The elderly are at risk of being murdered because they are seen as being a burden to society. The people that paved the way for the next generation are seen as nothing more than a throw away, in a very convenience oriented society. The elderly need our help, now more than ever, just like the little babies do. It’s as if it is a full circle, when we were young our parents feed, nurtured, cared for and comforted us. When they become elderly, why can we not do the same for them? Or ensure that they have access to somewhere that can properly care for them.
Not only are the innocent unborn babies and elderly at risk, but so are those who are sick and disabled. Two cases that have made the most news are Alfie Evans and Charlie Gard. The hospital took it into their hands to end the lives of these two precious children. Other hospitals were willing to take them, there was even a potential drug trial that could have helped Charlie Gard, but he was denied that right. It was decided that there was no hope for these two little souls.
The loss of Hope is despair and despair is the complete and utter denial of Jesus Christ because Jesus is hope. Jesus healed the sick, cast out demons, the paralyzed could walk, the deaf hear, the blind see and the dead raised. Amazing Grace how sweet thou art that saved a wretch like me. But we don’t give Jesus the opportunity to work miracles, to save us, because the doctors have become the miracle makers. Faith is not in God but in the doctors. Instead of viewing the doctors as an instrument for God to work through, we view them as god.
Saint Maximillian Kolbe was a Polish Friar who was arrested and kept in a concentration camp. When a man was being dragged away by the Nazis to die a death from starvation, he was screaming for his wife and children. Kolbe, who was being beaten and tortured simply because he was a Catholic priest, offered to take the place of this man. Upon doing this, he brought one very important thing to those who he was in prison with: hope. Hope that in pain and suffering, it would bring life alive in the spirit. When we suffer, we do it for Christ.
He said something that is very pertinent to today:“The most deadly poison of our times is indifference. And this happens, although the praise of God should know no limits. Let us strive, therefore, to praise Him to the greatest extent of our powers.”
When we look at the Stations of the Cross we should be filled with Hope because if Jesus, fully God and fully man, could suffer such a brutal death. Then why should I be saddened by my suffering? When Jesus made His journey during the Stations of the Cross, He fell three times but He always rose back up. He did it out of love for us, so why can’t we do it out of love for Him?
The fight for the right to life is not an easy one. Often times people are filled with anger towards those trying to protect the dignity of the weak. But if we always look to Jesus and view what he went through then we should be given comfort. Because just as Jesus told us, if the world hates you remember it hated Me first.
There is a quickly growing movement taking place in our country right now. One that is so swift, it is something not seen before. Businesses are taking bold action with this movement, even joining in. The reason it has been done is to ensure the safety of the environment and all innocent victims so that they can live a fully, happy, healthy lives.
The movement is the banning of straws and the victims are the ocean and the animals.
Let this sink in. People are vying for the abolishment of straws yet there is not a peep about the murder of innocent babies. Women are allowed to make a choice over the life of their baby but we are not allowed to decide if we want a straw.
We live in a backwards society and the only thing that will prosper against it is steadfastness in our faith. Stay strong, be faithful and don’t back down.
