The Eucharist Is Thanksgiving

The Holy Catholic Church will celebrate The Transfiguration of The Lord on Monday, August 6th, the event marked in the Gospels as well as in The Luminous Mysteries of The Holy Rosary. The Gospel accounts teach us that Jesus, while on top of a mountain speaking with Moses and Elijah, was transfigured in the presence of Peter, James, and John.
In my reflection on these verses in the Holy Bible, my thoughts were directed by The Holy Spirit to come to understand that in that instance His love for us is revealed. This scripture passage in the chronological sequence was when Our Lord and His disciples were making their way to Jerusalem prior to The Passion and Crucifixion.
Jesus wanted to show His disciples, and by extension, display to all of us: that He will always love us and always be with us. That, to me, is the central message of this Gospel account. Our Lord knew He was on His way to The Cross for all humanity, and He wanted us to take comfort in that His love transcends space and time.
That type of love is at points unimaginable to me, as I prayed The Divine Mercy Chaplet today, I reflected on The Transfiguration and the incredible love and mercy that Jesus has for me, for all of us. I will never understand it, but some things are supposed to be beyond our understanding.
The Transfiguration took on a new meaning as in my prayer of The Glorious Mysteries of The Holy Rosary today as well. I was reflecting upon The Resurrection and that Our Lord, the King of the Universe, cannot be held in the grave. The Transfiguration was the precursor of sorts, it was Jesus in His wisdom letting us know that he will conquer it all for us: sin, pain, and death. He will win our freedom.
The Ascension has some corollaries to The Transfiguration also, in my reflection today it was related to these where two accounts in the Gospels where the disciples witnessed Jesus change form in the sky. These events are also linked by the undertone of His constant love for us, the message that He will be with us always until the end of time.
In a world that is seemingly torn apart by sin and violence. A society that has lost the collective respect for human life. A situation where every day we have a slew of new atrocities within families and within neighborhoods: husbands killing wives and children, a woman beating her own mother and grandmother to death. In this fallen world, the message of The Transfiguration is more important than ever.
The message that Jesus loves you, loves me, and is there for us all until the end of our time on Earth is a tremendously comforting concept. The message takes on greater importance in the light of the fact that I am a sinner and have fallen short of what God expects from me.
This type of love and mercy provides me with hope in a world that is severely lacking hope of any kind. This message provides me with solace that through all of the trials I will face, Jesus is there with me, He is beside me.
I felt that this past week when I went to confession, I was feeling weighed down by some things that were going on. I felt transformed through the sacrament of Penance, and I felt that weight relieved. It was a powerful experience that has happened to me before, but I kept returning today to The Transfiguration and a God that loves me, loves us so much.
The next time that you feel like you are alone. The next time that you feel terrible or hopeless after watching a news clip or reading a news article. The next time that you feel weary of the stresses of the world; know that Jesus loves you. Our Lord is there for you whenever you need Him and wherever you are.
Jesus knows everything we have ever done, every failure or mistake. Jesus knows it all because He took all of those sins with Him to The Cross for you, for me, and for all mankind. In the quiet stillness tell Him how much you love Him and your life will be transfigured, your life will be transformed. You will never be the same again. You will be transfigured into the person Jesus needs you to be, and you will find peace and love that will follow you forever.
May the Lord Jesus who was Transfigured on a mountain for us illuminate and light your path through the darkness of the world. May the Lord Jesus be with you all and bless you all through the trials of life. May God bless you.
