Mixed Up Catherine

It amazes me how God has a place for every little creature that either roams or flies over the Earth. Just recently, I saw a couple of robins return to my house and feverishly work to build a nest above my front door. It’s the usual spot and although it can be somewhat annoying the way they watch over you -- in fear you might touch their nest, it’s really amazing to watch how as each day passes -- the eggs hatch and suddenly, where eggs once were, tiny robins lay squawking for food.
Interestingly enough, the babies are well guarded. If momma isn’t watching over them, papa is, and not a moment went by, I didn’t see one or the other watching over the nest. They certainly know their roles when it comes to the ‘circle of life’.
Last year I had the good fortune to see them build a nest inside one of my wreaths I had hanging on the door. Because it was on the door, it was easier to keep track of what they were doing. Many times during the day, I peered out to see who was there -- momma or papa. Sometimes I saw both of them keeping close watch and it was heartwarming.
I loved watching each baby bird grow and as time would have it, they grew big enough to leave the nest and fly off. My bird watching though didn’t stop there. I watched as each baby flew on the grass below and how they struggled to get themselves to where they could fly solely alone. What I found interestingly amazing was how mom and dad followed them from one place to another, never leaving their side.
All the wonderful aspects of nature are fascinating and it continues to amaze me how each creature knows the time and place to do what comes natural to them -- what God’s purpose for them is and how they do what’s expected of them.
As God’s children, we can learn a lot from the creatures above and below the Earth because God gave us also the same miraculous gift. At a time when the fight continues to legalize abortions more world wide and becomes more and more the accepted norm, let us consider the role God has given us. Clearly the birds know -- why as the most intelligent creatures on Earth, don’t we?
