What Kind of Flower are You?

I've heard it and I'm sure you have too. The medium takes different forms: popular women's talk shows, print format and cable news....politicians and film stars. The message is clear: The Catholic Church needs to change with the times. Yet what some non-Catholics and Catholics alike fail to understand is that morals are not dictated by secular opinion.
When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments He didn't say that they were applicable for a couple thousand-plus years and then could be modified to fit our desires.
There is one though that would accept that line of thinking. And that's the devil. Throughout history his ploy has been the same:
"You know what's best for you. You know what's good and bad. It's all about you. Your life. God seems to put limits on you and hold you back. You know better. You know what's best for YOUR life. You're smart. You don't need to FOLLOW the rules---you can MAKE your own rules because you will know what's personally best for you!"
Sound familiar? This is basically the conversation that originated between the devil and Adam and Eve. It's the exact same ploy used throughout history to compensate for any deviation from the Ten Commandments!
Think on this: Just because something is old doesn't mean it doesn't have value. In fact, think of ancient architectural wonders or museum treasures. Tourists flock to these buildings, these artifacts. The historical treasures are static, never changing. Yet they are cherished and their value is timeless.
So too are the Ten Commandments and the Catholic Church.
So this gives us something serious to consider: Who's opinion should we follow daily when it comes to moral ethics? Are our actions following God our Creator in heaven or the way of the fallen angel who roams the world seeking the ruin of souls? Do you believe the Ten Commandments are a priceless treasure that should be cherished and followed? Or are you of the belief that we can pick and choose what we feel best suits us? Do you choose the giver of the Ten Commandments or are you building your own personal golden calf?
