The Most Important Lesson

The deep wound can be anything. While we may not be able to see each wound, many people have some form of wounds. Those wounds can cause those people to act in different manners. Some people may leave the Church. Some people may choose to just go through with the regular routine. Others may choose to just carry the wound around. Whatever the reason for the wound, and whatever the reason why they have the wound, there is a wound present.
As a Catholic, it is not our responsibility to fix the wound. It is our responsibility to help others find their ways back to God. We need to find ways to help our fellow Catholics to turn back towards God. By helping one find ways to accept the mistakes, seek forgiveness, and find a way back to Christ, we are learning to not judge others. We do not know the full reason why the person is looking to turn away from Christ. Most times people are carrying around these heavy and deep wounds. Those wounds happened from something or someone. And these wounds will not be changed overnight.
While dealing with our deep wounds, we need to continue to plant the seeds of faith with others. On top of the issues with deep wounds, we need to remember that we need to meet the person where they are. The wound is going to lessen with time as long as we continue to nurture the person’s soul and soften the heart. These deep wounds cause us to be hard boiled eggs. Just like an egg that was gentle and delicate, we become hard and bitter about the circumstances that leave us believing that there is no way possible for a God to exist. We forget that the hard boiled egg still has that soft inside. We forget that we still have that soft inside. Sometimes the only thing the person needs is for you to spend time with him or her. The person is hurting and due to how deep the wounds are, the person is going to want to attack us. They do not mean to attack us. They do not understand why we could love Christ so much and have so much faith with all the suffering. We need to realize that it is their wound that is speaking to us and is not them.
The wound can be anything, from words from a person they respect or admire, to some major attack to a rape, and the list goes on and on. It is not our responsibility to fix the wound. It is our responsibility to plant the seeds to Christ. It is our responsibility to listen to the words they are saying and not have ulterior motives. It is our responsibility to just be present for the person. We are not going to change the wound overnight. However, with prayers and lots of support the wound will start to heal. The wound will be able to be completed healed and we are left with scars.
A wound can become completely healed by prayer. Prayer does work. Eventually, the hard shell of the egg will come off and we will be soft again. The wound takes time to heal. To some, it may take days to months. For others, the wound could take years. However, we need to realize that the wounds are carried by every single person. It is just a matter of where do we leave the wounds – do we continue to carry them around as deep baggage or do we drop them at the foot of the cross – the choice is yours.
You can choose to allow the wounds to eat you alive. Trust me, they will eat you alive. They will kill you. None of those are options if we leave those wounds at the cross and allow for them to heal. God will provide us the strength to get through each day. I can promise you the strength will come when you leave everything at the cross.
