There's An Angel Watching Over You

I have a peace that surpasses all understanding because my mind is on Christ, (Phil. 4:7). There are moments in life when circumstances seem so overwhelming, but in Christ we are not to worry about these things because they truly are out of our control. “If even the smallest things are beyond your control, why are you anxious about the rest?” (Luke 12:26). God wants us at ease in all circumstances. He reminds us that his yoke is light and that He would never burden us, (Matt. 11:30).
God has plans to prosper us and give us a future! (Jr. 29:11). It is never His intent to wear us down with worry. On the contrary, He is called the Prince of Peace because He gave us the peace of eternal life (and also in all circumstances). Peace from God is a unique surrender to him in all things which stems from being content in all circumstances: “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want,” (Phil. 4:12). We are to be content in this world for our own well being - God cannot give us peace without contentment in life.
Knowing God is also an excellent source of peace. If we know that He will never forsake us (Heb. 13:5), then we also know that He hears our prayer. His answer of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to prayer is always done in love, because He is a caring Father. My peace comes from knowing that the Lord is my rock and my salvation. Knowing that eternity can only come through Him is an essential element for peace of mind. Additionally, the Lord answers prayer even before we ask! “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him,” (Matt. 6:8).
Peace in this world is not easily acquired, because of the brokenness of humanity. It is why we need the Lord to fill us with His Holy Spirit to give us the ultimate gift of peace. The battle for peace has already been won and is available for the asking: “He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by his wounds we are healed,” (Isa. 53:5). We are each invited to explore the Lord’s character and learn who He is to us. Knowing God means knowing that He provides in all circumstances according to His will (Phil. 4:19). We are never to be burdened with matters of this world because the Lord has already provided. Affirming this in or soul is an essential step towards increased peace.
