My Paycheck From God

Just this past Sunday, I once again had the opportunity to hear another fantastic homily Monsignor K. gave to his congregation and after he was finished, it really got me thinking. Now no one likes to think about death and their mortality, but let's face it, we don't get to live here on earth forever, therefore, we have to ask ourselves, have we spent a lifetime preparing to ‘live one day with God’?
Monsignor’s homily reflected on initially a woman who was dying from cancer. He said, when he came to administer to her the Sacrament of the Sick, she told him she felt at peace, and was prepared to go live with God. She said, she'd tried hard throughout her entire life to live as God would have wanted her to live, and believed she was ready to meet God and He would welcome her home with Him.
It was a wonderful story, and it leaves us with the question, are we ready, when our time comes, to meet God.
Death can come instantaneously and without warning. It can be just a ‘heartbeat away’! Are we ready?
We may think so, and say to, ourselves, “One day I’ll be living my eternity with God,” but will we?
Monsignor K. went on to remind us that as much as we may want to one day live with God, will He want to live with us?
Wow! Now who would have thought that..., that God might not find us worthy to live with Him?
Unfortunately, there are too many of us out there trying to make ourselves acceptable to God on our terms and NOT His, and believing that we’re going to live with Him, even if we do what's comfortable to us.
Before we get so arrogant believing God will allow us to live with Him without living by His rules, we'd better ask ourselves again, did I live the way God wanted me to live throughout my life, because if not, it really doesn't matter if I want to live with God, the real question is ….
Will God want to live with me?
God Bless Monsignor K. for such a beautiful, meaningful homily.
