Not by bread alone

If you are anything like me you will agree that we live in a hectic, busy world; that, in the course of the working week can raise its game to feel almost manic.
Always racing to get to work, meetings and appointments in time and hardly getting to take a deep breath. Sometimes feeling as if you have only managed to 'inhale' your lunch and already it's time to get back to the wheel.
Oh, what you would do to find some kind of calm and refreshment even just for 5 minutes in your day.
All of this stress impinges on our way of thinking and so we might struggle in our Prayer life to reach the Lord.
But what we need to remember is Who he is. He is the Name above all names, He is the Living God, Jesus who at this very moment is sitting at the right hand of the Father.
That is - God our Father who is in Heaven. Heaven???? Are we getting that? ...............
We are told this in the Apostles Creed, we say it at every Mass and we say it out loud .
Why? oh Why? do we not realise what we are saying?
If this is a true fact we should have no fear in our hearts about anything, not even for a minute.
But.....We are only human. Sometimes I think that the 'not realising' is a safeguard so we don't ' lose the place' for instance receiving the Eucharist, if we could really FEEL it would we Faint? Or be overcome with emotion? Surely it would be too much for a human being to handle.
But we can and do sometimes get a balance there, a happy medium and this is what we need to strive for.
If the Dividing line is Stress, Pre-Occupation? With Family, Work, debt , Health?
The reasons are endless but If so what can we do about that?
What I do is try to work through the Barrier by Drawing closer to the Lord and
We can all do that in many different ways; that is we can choose to try by ourselves, but again if we just look we will find there are guidelines in the Sacred Scriptures , spoken to us by our Lord Jesus himself.
These are just some of the many that I have found;
Psalm 46.10 - Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nation I will be exalted on the earth.
Mathew 6.6 - But when you Pray, go into your inner room, shut your door and pray to your Father who is unseen and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
Mathew 26. 36 - At that time Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane and he said to them " sit here while I go over there to pray".
Luke 6. 12 - that day Jesus went out to the mountain to Pray and he spent the night in Prayer to God. After that he picked his disciples.
Mathew 11:28-30 - Come to me all those who labour and are burdened and I will give you rest; For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
It is clear that Our Lord Jesus often went to a private place to pray to God our Father
and so it feels right for us to do the same.
Finding even 20 minutes in your day for Prayer and reflection, just as our Lord shows, a private place for you and your Father can strengthen that precious bond. It can renew your tired mind and body and nurture your soul and set you up for life's daily toil, Praise Jesus!
