St Christopher Magallanes and companions

    Have you ever heard of this great Saint? I had not, until it came up on the calendar of feast days! He's a beautiful martyr! Being executed without even a trial. 

     Entering the seminary at age 19, he was ordained a Catholic priest in the year of 1899. He was from Mexico, where he worked as a shepherd before his entrance into the seminary. After his ordination, he returned to his hometown where he founded schools and opened carpentry shops to provide jobs for the people there. 

     The "Cristero War" closed down seminaries, but Christopher Magallanes established a clandestine (which means, done in secret) Seminary to continue to train priests. He was arrested on May 21st, 1927, while traveling to celebrate mass. Before his execution, he gave his belongings to his captors and gave them all absolution. He was shot without trial on May 25th, 1927. Pope John Paul II canonized him a Saint as part of a group of 25 Mexican Martyrs. He is invoked against government persecution. 

     Has life really evolved in betterment for this world? For our Country? For our Nations? This is not a "something of old" and unfortunately it remains "not new", as the wars still rage on everywhere. Lots of them, due to religious freedom. The U.S is not immune to it. There is still hate and a wide expanse of those who want to control and stunt the belief in God. But, there are still those who still are willing to fight for freedom of religion, as Pope John Paul II said, courageously exercising their ministry when religious persecution intensifies, when the unleashing of hatred falls upon the Catholic religion. St Christopher and companions are some of the mighty warriors that now reside in Heaven because of their faithfulness for Peace and freedom to exercise their religious beliefs. We have much help with their intercession. We must call on them as much as we can for their help. St Christopher Magallanes and companions are part of that army that we can ask for their intercession for Peace.
