This is My confession
Did you know that on this day, in 1912, the Titanic sunk. Deeming it unsinkable, it still went down. On board, we're three priests. Father Thomas Byles, Father Josef Benedict Peruschitz O.S.B. and Father Juozas Montvila. The three passed up a chance for a lifeboat and chose to remain on board and pray with and minister to passengers, hear confessions and grant final Absolution. They're heroic efforts in true Apostleship proves that God will never leave us alone, no matter what the situation. Those that received their last dying Sacraments were given a chance at redemption. Provided by these three heroic men.
All of the untold stories of tragedies that have happened to the dismay of our horror have yet another story of joyful Union with God. In the frenzy of each devastating event in History, I'm sure there is a story of Salvation in each one. God never said we wouldn't have crosses, or trials, or fears or challenges. He promised to never leave us alone. And He has kept to His word every time. The great lessons of the Cross bring fruits from Heaven if our shield is worthy of the learning that we put into it. We can refuse and learn nothing, or accept, and win Grace. Grace strong enough to carry us through. Just like these three beautiful priests. The Grace saw them through, therefore carrying others to receive that Grace, the grace they needed in all their fear and sorrow of perishing.
Hundreds of thousands of witnesses to the truth, that we may never ever know or hear about. But they are there. We just have to believe.
