Lent Is Coming
As America continues to navigate a post-Roe era, the effect of legalized abortion is beginning to plague our nation. A recent report came out, and the numbers needed to replace the fading baby boom demographics don’t look promising.
According to Daily Wire, the annual death reports will soon outnumber births in America by the next decade. Total births per 1,000 American women aged 15-44 dropped to 53.1 last year, according to data released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last year also marked the first time in U.S. history that women in their late 30s had higher birth rates than women in their 20s.
Vice President Vance said while speaking at the March for Life this year, “Our society has failed to recognize that the obligation that one generation has to another is a core part of living in a society to begin with, so let me say very simply, I want more babies in the United States of America.” He went on to say that America needs more babies.
The trend is alarming. Maybe it’s time women reject feminism and embrace their calling to authentic motherhood. Not only that, but it is also time to face some harsh realities as to why this trend will inevitably continue
Abortion Record High
While the Dobbs decision is slowly taking effect and bringing the abortion debate to the state level, Planned Parenthood murdered nearly 1200 babies a year in 2024 and 2025. Meanwhile, they are using our taxpaying dollars to promote more abortions and less healthcare, as child sacrifice makes up 97% of their business.
Cost of Living
It goes without saying that many everyday needs have been subject to price gouging, emptying our wallets and even bank accounts. Many are living paycheck to paycheck to get by.
Even a good salary-paying job will not be enough to sustain a family of two with desires for one more child.
Some recent college graduates struggle to pay off their student loan debt or even find ways to afford a home.
Later Marriages
The trend in the report has seen women in their mid to late 30s and 40s having children, as late marriages are becoming a norm. Our grandparents' golden and silver wedding milestones are becoming a thing of the past. Unfortunately, feminism has driven many women to a life that is career-driven and not the authentic route, motherhood, and marriage.
Charlie Kirk reminds us that “Having children is more important than having a good career … my kids matter more than how many social media followers I have.” This is where the trend can reverse among Generations Millennials, Z, Alpha, and Beta.
In celebration of his daughter's birthday, Kirk also wrote on a recent Instagram post, “Having a family will change your life in the best ways, so get married and have kids. You won’t regret it."
Yes, the numbers are damning and scary, yet Americans must rise and place God at the center of their lives.
If ever American fears God, the country will change. Our task in this life is to bring about the kingdom of God on earth and fulfil the will of God. Catholics were never meant to be of the world but of the next.
In the words of Harrison Butker, “Get married and have kids.”
