Reflect Before the March for Life
“For I was . . . in prison and you visited me” (Mt 25:35, 36)
As we're near the conclusion of the Corporal Works of Mercy, here is a review of the previous works and their practices
Prison can be lonely and hard for those serving time for their crime. We are called to remember the less fortunate. Now, a prison is not just a literal one for those who made poor decisions. It can also be the home-bound in our parish and community.
Here are practical tips for practicing the 6th Corporal Work of Mercy
Direct In-Person Visit
Learn about a prison near you and find out its visiting hours. Take time to share the gospel with that person.
It can also be checking in on someone who can't physically get around and needs someone to run errands for them or help with household chores.
Letter Writing
Even with the apparatus of emails and social media, there is something about a handwritten letter that can be sent to those who feel like an outcast. Take time to send one to someone far away, set up a pen pal service for those serving in the Armed Forces, someone in jail, or even cards for those in nursing homes.
