God is the greatest teacher of them all! Jesus, while on earth, tries to gather the lambs by teaching with parables. Because our simple minds allow the stumbling blocks of unreason to not be able to grasp, a lot of times, the true meaning of the "way". His stories make us able to understand the ups and downs of our actions and guide us to that understanding of what each word spoken from His mouth means.
He talks a lot about Pride. Jesus, while on earth, loves those who were humble and in need of a doctor. A Doctor of the Soul. Continuously showing us that the rejected and sinfu,l was the reason He came. He found a lot of Pride everywhere. Those that listened to His words, left their nets by the sea and removed the scales from their eyes that were keeping them from the true Kingdom of God. Nothing has changed. We are still in that same scenario to this day. In need of a Doctor of our Souls.
Just as a people lost, so are we. Always in need of that "great fisher of men". Showing us in parables and in examples, the virtues and vices that either lead us away from Him or straight to Him.
That foolish Pride He saw, in the very people who were supposed to be teaching and understanding His laws, neglecting of Truth and Surrender. The very people who prayed constantly for a Messiah, could not even recognize that He was standing right before their eyes and in their midst. It was foolish Pride. Their knowledge, they thought, surpassed all the mere people that they lived around and walked with every day.
Pride puts on blinders, so that our eyes cannot see what is right before us. From the beginning of time, humanity has fought this demon, who seems to be able to trick so many. Praying for protection from this evil is essential to our humility, that drops the scales from our eyes so that we may be called "children of God".
Lay that foolish Pride by the wayside and pick up your cross. For it is only in the cross that we keep ourselves bound to Him who truly loves us. Our Almighty Father. Our God. He will help us carry it. So, in carrying it together, the burden is made light. We will rejoice in "our" Resurrection in the Holy Light of humility and Peace.
Like the saying, used in the exercises on "Hallow", we say to our God, "empty me, fill me, use me".
