St Jerome
It's a terrible feeling when someone you love, let alone, a sibling, or child or a spouse is at odds with the family. Something feels missing or uneasy. The unit is not complete. The house is divided. Plans are askew and that missing Link is felt by everyone. That's how the devil wants it. Even if the prodigal child returns, you take the chance of one or the other, still not seeing eye to eye. Someone has to acknowledge Peace and resignation and emphasize Union with each other and God. For like He says,"whoever is not with me is against me". God is the keeper of Peace.
Like the psalmist also says, "if today you hear His voice, hardened not your hearts". Only our hearts are quite intricate and delicate. We don't like them to be bruised or battered, so we hold them hostage from all hurt feelings.
Sometimes that stops us from hearing His voice. It's like an echo in a cave. Faint, but yet repeating until we move close enough to where we can make out what it is saying. The closer we get the clearer the message. Only a lot of times our hearts are so hardened and hurt that it needs a chisel to break away the rock that has formed around it. Still, if we keep trying, eventually that casing is whittled down enough for Hope to break through and we are able to hear His voice, loud and clear.
It will come. We just need to be patient and awake. Because the house once divided will become whole again with just a little more time, patience and lots of love.
