Sometimes you choose Lent. You choose what you’re giving up as a sacrifice or doing more of to make Christ more of the center of your life. It’s intentional.
Other times, Lent chooses you and it’s not something you choose. It's unintentional. Life gives you a Lenten experience and you must discern how it’s intended to grow you in a new way. Maybe it’s a job loss, a life situation, a transition, or just something challenging that life has thrown your way.
In either situation, it’s helpful to look at this Gospel today where Jesus is tempted in the desert, and our own Lenten experiences:
