If The Heart Is Open, No Amount Of Failing Keeps God From Working
The heart of man is cold. The heart of man does not recognize his need for God. The heart of man walks a desert and looks this way and that, and prefers himself, even if it is a desert. But those few who are not so caught up in their own want as to shut the doors of their hearts, these few know of a great and powerful love; and this love we should always strive to seek, though every day be full of weeds.
This love is known, in how what I want this love to be, is not the true love of God abiding in me; but I know this love insomuch as it defies what I want it to be, and proves itself on my heart to be holy; even as I myself am a sinner. I do not deserve the Lord's love, but I see in him that I am loved, even though I am most to be loathed, a cockroach – yet even so, the Lord is holy, righteous, and good. Nothing can compare to the love of God when it consumes us; let us therefore seek the Lord above all else, and be fed by all the wisdom of those who have gone before us, never dropping from our hearts this precious pearl of high price, but pouring all of ourselves out to God all of our lives.
We need him, we need him sore, we need him more than we need air; therefore, let us remember, that God alone is our only desire! Let us all the more throw ourselves into him, and be thankful – and lean on him through every trial. For we have a promise, and a great promise it is; let us follow it and seek it and hold fast to the Kingdom the Lord has appointed. Let us love the Lord, and love each other, and joyfully serve all that we are given from the good heart of our Creator. Daily does he show to us new graces, inviting us deeper and deeper into his love, and leading us every day upon the road to walk. Though narrow, let us ensure tis the road we are eager to go! Tis the road to Jerusalem! Tis the road that goes home!
