What to do when hope seems lost
Sweet Bernadette! I love her! Wanting to be a normal young girl, playing, running, being with friends. But because of extreme asthma after contracting Cholera, she was a sickly child and considered dead weight and a burden, as she couldn't keep up with the others in all activities. Born to a poor family, Bernadette was one of nine children. Although trained in Catholic values, Bernadette was rejected and often felt alone.
One day, while begging her mother to let her go with her younger sister and a friend, they went to gather firewood. The two other girls ran off and left Bernadette by herself as they told her to stay behind because she would not be able to keep up. Bernadette tried to reassure them that that would not happen, but they ran off anyway, leaving Bernadette by a running Brook, telling her to sit there and wait for them to come back. While sitting there, Bernadette figured she could also help, so she removed her socks and shoes and started to cross the brook. The wind started to blow hard and the trees wrestled. Looking up, she saw a beautiful lady who appeared above a rose bush in The Grotto called Massabielle. The woman wore blue and white and smiled at Bernadette before making the sign of the cross with a rosary of Ivory and Gold. Bernadette fell to her knees and immediately began praying the Rosary with her. They're beginning the great legacy of "Our Lady of Lourdes".
Our Lady of Lourdes is another title of our beloved Blessed Mother Mary, in which we celebrate her feast day today. Recalling to mind and heart these events which took place on February 11th, 1858. Another moment to honor and realize that Mary loves us all. The spotless innocence of the child in which we must also become like. Rejecting all and anything that is not of God or the Heavenly Realm. Mary is our Mother. Mary is our Light. Our Morning Star. Our direction we can look towards that leads us to our Lord, who wishes to use each of us for a purpose.
Let us ask St Bernadette to help us and all young women walk the path that God intended for us. Even before we were born, we were destined to follow the Light, the one true God, our Father along with our Mother Mary. She helps illuminate The grotto of our Souls. She looks to find a suitable rose bush in our hearts upon which to rest on.
Our Lady of Lourdes, and Saint bernadette, please pray for us and illuminate our souls and keep us on the path that leads to Heaven.
