Our New Year's Resolutions
Escape in Exchange for Surrendering Control
Eileen Renders
We all have Crosses throughout our lives, and yet there are those that we can bear. Other Crosses are heavier and unforgiving in that we seem unable to tolerate them. We find those Crosses unrelenting. When we fall with our Cross as Jesus fell, we seek help and pray for God’s mercy. When it doesn’t come, some of us give up! By that, I mean we begin to seek a way out that requires us to hand over control of our being to a source that is without mercy. I am speaking about a temporary escape through prescribed (often with side effects and dependency) or illegal drugs.
Often, the loss of a spouse, divorce, health, or other devastating blows can leave us struggling, depressed, or filled with anxiety. We may even feel that we would rather die than continue to live in our current state of emotions.
How can we rise above our struggles?
How can we help a loved one who is experiencing this depression?
A. Understanding of how addictive drugs can relieve our emotions and feelings of caring or understanding is essential to our healing and acceptance that professional help is necessary for healing.
B. Acceptance of our depression, anxiety, and need for God is essential for our ability to take positive steps toward recovery. Without God, we are going down a dark road alone. Prayer on our knees, begging for God’s mercy, accepting professional help, requesting prayer and assistance from family can be helpful.
C. Always seek natural alternatives for insomnia, anxiety, depression, etc is a good place to start. Seek out expertise with a Naturopath. Let us not forget that God has said, “I made these leaves, and berries, and herbs for your food and your medicine.”
D. Do not attempt to self-treat, as all is not equal when it comes to Alternative or natural medicine, as some are contraindicated with perhaps a heart or diabetic medicine. Many formulas are not made in the United States; therefore, purity and potency cannot be substantiated. The dosage and frequency of supplements should also be determined by your experienced physician.
Finally, God does not give us more than we can bear. If we love and trust in Him and continue to pray for strength and tolerance, He will show His mercy. He has shown His love for us, even unto his torture, and being nailed to a Cross until death.
