Now I Know What Leads to Greed
In the first reading today, we hear the Lord’s words to Israel: You are my servant, in whom I show my glory.
Then later in the Psalm, we hear the words: Hear I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
We are reminded that God has formed us, called us, and sent us to others to do God’s will and thereby glorify God. It is through us that He shows His glory if we follow His paths.
These lines are inter-related. We must discern, know, and follow God’s will. That takes persistance, prayer, and commitment to the spiritual life day in and day out.
Then once we know God’s will it takes action, patience, and courage, especially if God’s will is challenging, doesn’t unfold right away, or contradicts our own plans for our lives.
And by doing these things, we become God’s servants and we will glorify God someway, somehow through our words and example. God’s glory will shine through us magnificently - just like it did through Israel, Paul, John the Baptist and Jesus - our examples today.
May we be servants open to God’s will so that we may glorify Him with our lives.
