My Own Eucharistic Revival
Did you ever notice that many of the references to the Holy Family center around them being at the Temple? So it is with our families, that our life should center on the Church if we wish to be a holy family.
During a recent homily, our parish priest alluded to this. He stated that while it was great that he saw all of us once a week, he wished he would see us more often during the week. His point was that being truly engaged in the Church is more than just attending weekly Sunday Mass. It’s about becoming immersed into the community of the Church.
The holier your family, the more your life will revolve around the Church community. That means mass, confession, parish activities, volunteering, and parish school of religion or children attending the school are part of your weekly activities.
And outside of Church, what does this look like?
A holy family will still be engaged the broader Church – praying the prayers of the Church like Liturgy of the Hours, the Rosary, novenas, and so forth; listening to and watching faithful media (music, podcasts, TV, movies); and putting the Gospel into practice in their homes and workplaces. Maybe members of the family even join Church groups, lay orders, or attend events that involve the broader Church community.
All of this alongside doing their daily duties and participating willingly in God’s will is what makes a family holy.
