Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
The unlikely hero in the infancy narrative can be Mary, who said “yes” to life. But what about her betrothed? Yes, let’s not count out St. Joseph.
During Pope Francis's tenure, he oversaw the year dedicated to the beloved St. Joseph, the patron saint of the universal church. There was a year dedicated to him from December 2020 to December 2021. The world was navigating the uncharted waters of COVID and its Draconian lockdowns, unrest in Europe, the Middle East, and the world.
One thing that the pope encouraged was for everyone to pray to the statue of sleeping St. Joseph. “I like St. Joseph. He has so much power! For 40 years, I have recited a prayer that I found in an old French missal that says: “St. Joseph, whose power is able to render possible even things which are considered impossible'”. The pope prayed to him for 40 years, and no question continued his devotion to him even in his final days on earth.
In the Gospel of Matthew, the evangelist is the only one to mention St. Joseph in the birth narrative. He shares how this foster father received a message from St. Gabriel to “do not be afraid”.
St. Joseph, without hesitation, did what the angel to do.
We are entering the waning days of our Advent journey. It is time to take part in challenges to finish our journey to the manger.
Finish Advent strong in five ways.
Go to Confession
Yes, this point may seem redundant. Yet, it is important to prepare room in our hearts for Christ by getting our hearts and souls in order. Seek God’s mercy.
Say “yes” to God’s will
Mary and St. Joseph took up the gauntlet that God gave them. They didn’t hesitate, but they humbly accepted the task given to them to welcome the Messiah. In what areas are we lacking to say “yes”.
Do an act of courage
It can be making a call instead of a text, perhaps asking the girl or boy ( make the move, men) out for hot cocoa from Bible Study, or reaching out to someone who has been marginalized due to petty differences.
Visit a Christmas Creche
Jesus wants you. He doesn’t want anything tangible on someone’s wish list. Rather, he longs for us to be present at the crib. Visit a Nativity Scene at church or out in public and give him your heart's desire
Meditate on Advent and Christmas Mysteries of the Rosary
An article details an additional set of mysteries of the rosary that can be incorporated during Advent and Christmas. They can help us draw closer to the mystery of the Incarnation.
Let’s finish Advent strong. Remember, fear can be conquered by faith. Be not afraid
