To my fellow Catholics; not all Protestants are the same
“The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty; The LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods life up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.
Your decrees are very trustworthy;
holiness befits your house, O LORD, forevermore.” (Psalm 93).
Okay, sometimes, I like to do reflective articles. Not everything has to be apologetics. But, I want to mention several things about this. V. 1 tells us that God is robed in majesty, but, how much do we think about that? I think it's quite possible that many of us think about God as a cosmic superhero.
He's so much more than that.
V.3-4, “The Floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods life up their roaring. Mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high, is mighty.”
Okay, so, having both seen the ocean (in fact, the tide coming in can be terrifying), and living through the nowhere near the ocean Great Flood of 1993 (I was born in Davenport, Iowa, and I was five years old during it, and, yes, I remember it). I don't think people realize just how destructive floods are.
But, they point the Psalmist is trying to make, is that God is more powerful than these.
Which is why v.5 tells us that God's decrees are trustworthy.
