The Fifth Commandment - Part 3
Who Sits At The Right Side Of Jesus In Glory?
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
The title of this article has always perplexed me. We all know that Jesus sits at the right hand of His Father, but, who will sit at the right hand of Jesus in glory? Two of his disciples had made the request of Jesus to sit at his right and left side in glory. That request left the other ten with the feeling of righteous indignation.
I can think of only one person who definitely should sit at the right hand of Jesus. Naturally, it is Mary, the Mother of God. She gave the greatest service to Jesus throughout His lifetime. She nursed Him as an infant and cared for all his physical needs. Mary seemed to understand that at the Wedding Feast of Cana that it was time for Jesus to manifest himself in public life. Mary was the person who told Jesus that there was no wine for the guests to drink. Mary also told the servers, “to do whatever He tells you.” Mary also saw her son mocked, scourged, and crowned with thorns before she met him on the way to his death carrying his cross. Mary also saw Him nailed to his cross. She silently and lovingly stood by the cross as she witnessed her Son's death.
Jesus gave the dearest human being He ever knew to the Apostle John, who represented the entire human race. Jesus did not just give Mary to the Catholics or believers. Mary by her infinite fiat of, “Be it done unto me according to thy word”, as spoken to the Angel Gabriel, became the new Eve. She became the mother to all of us. Mary, to use a football analogy did not fumble the ball like Eve. She carried the ball to fruition and is still working today to try to save as many of her children who cooperate with the Grace of God.
Mary also stood by the cross when Jesus died, was pierced with a lance, was taken down from the cross, and people placed his lifeless body into her loving sorrowful arms. She stood by and supervised her son's burial. Thankfully, Our Blessed Mother had John, the Apostle, who also followed his Master to stand at the foot of the cross with Mary. The only human being who has served her Master without fail should have the right side seat next to Jesus in glory. Her humble service has earned her that right. Through her many apparitions seen on earth we can be assured the she is still serving her Master and Son on earth.
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Deo Gratias. Gloria Tibi Domini. Praise be to God. See you in Paradise. Amen.
